"Thanks to the clouds, we'll have some invisibility tonight. We won't have too long because the clouds are supposed to clear out in an hour or so. We'll need to move fast."
He stops talking when hearing the sounds of sirens. He quickly grabs my shoulder and jerks me down to the ground with him, crouching beside the car with his index finger hovering next to his painted lips while his eyes are glued in the direction the police sirens are headed.
Now, he starts running toward the building, and I follow behind him. Keeping his body low, he runs across the parking lot quickly.
"Okay, we'll move in from the back entrance." He says once we stop at the side of the building, slowly moving around towards the back.
He crouches towards the ground and pulls up a piece of the metal fence for me to go through, which I do. Once I'm on the other side, I hold it up for him to come through, too.
There are long sheets of blue material wrapped around the fence and hanging down from the building, indicating it's still being worked on. As we stand inside the fence, and thankfully, hidden away from the parking lot, we notice all of the construction materials laying in neat piles.
Handing the other bag to me, I take it from his hand while his neck is tilted up to the night sky.
I watch him let out a soft chuckle. A cloud of air leaving his lips.
"Let's get going. Stay on my heels," he smiles while keeping his eyes on the building, running quietly towards the back exit that we'll be entering through.

As I follow closely behind, I feel my heart starting to beat faster as soon as we step into the elevator. It doesn't take long before he presses the top button.
The elevator ride is smooth, and I'm thankful the elevator doesn't drop us.
When the elevator doors slide open, I'm the first to step out, ready to get this mission over with while also trying to breathe from inside the small elevator.
It's cool up here, and I can tell there's a cold breeze coming in from somewhere. We must be at the part of the building that has yet to fully be built.
I turn and follow him up the stairs, holding onto the metal railings the whole time. I wish I could be as calm and collected as he is right now, but I won't even attempt to try it.
Opening the last door, we step out, and the freezing air hits right through me.
The roof is above us, the ground is finished, and cement columns are placed around the floor to hold up the ceiling, but that's all.
Plastic sheets fly around on the floor, covering objects and materials to keep them still. There's no lighting on this floor yet and no electricity since the elevator doesn't come this high so far. I don't see how he's so calm after seeing this.
However, he walks through the floor with a grin, not just because of the clown smile painted on his face but because a genuine smile is across his lips.
He throws his hands up, hitting the sides of his pants with a slapping sound.
"This is the perfect place to do it, Vee. I think we're going to make history tonight." I watch his head tilt upward, chuckling at the idea of this risky plan.
Throwing his black bag on the ground, I walk over and place mine next to his. I sit down on the cold floor, wrapping my arms over my knees.
"You know," he begins, coming beside me and sitting down as well. "I'm proud of you, but I know that doesn't mean anything to you. I am though—for you coming here with me—"
"What's the real reason you brought me? I have the least amount of experience with this. Why me?" I ask, silently, letting my body cool down from the breeze.
"Honestly?" He turns forward, not meeting my gaze. "I knew you wouldn't bring up Acid. If I took anyone else, they would be asking me questions left and right about what happened between us, and I can't even answer it for myself, much less give it to toxic people who will shout it from the hilltops." He sighs quietly.
"I know you have enough respect not to ask, but everyone else doesn't care anymore. The world is changing, Vee. To be completely honest, I don't know why the hell I still stay at the warehouse, especially now that Acid's left. I don't know how to explain it, but I didn't sign up to handle bratty young adults. The whole point of our crew is to fight back against the evil of businessmen." He pauses for a second, letting that sink into his mind as if he hasn't fully thought like this in a long time.
"After tonight," he stops talking abruptly, letting his fingers do the talking when they fidget, "I'm leaving."
He turns to me now with a silent face that's so unreadable no one could understand it.
"I'm leaving the warehouse, but I want in on one more mission before I'm done forever."
"And that is?" I find myself asking, surprised by how serious my voice comes out.
"We're attacking the mayor's office and the biggest bank in the city in three months. We're pulling off a money heist, and I'm leaving this city, for the first time in my entire life, as a rich man."
