Chapter 30

EVELYN'S POV

When I got to my room I laid on the bed, I noticed my phone light just went out a few seconds ago. I took my phone and opened it. I saw two missed calls from Ethan and a message telling me to call him as soon as I read it. So I dailed his number and he picked it up immediately

"Hello E" I said trying to sound chirpy

"Finally someone locates her phone, where were you" he asked me

"I was downstairs making breakfast and dad was a bit out of it so I had to take care of him" I replied him

"How is he doing? Hope he is okay... Do you need me to come over I am still around. Though I might be leaving this evening for my campus" he told me

"Yeah it's true, I just remembered you are an intern. Well atleast we could see briefly before you go back right?" I asked him

"Sure...I will see you in the next hour is that okay?" He asked me

"Yeah it's perfect. Alright till then" I told  him before hanging up.

Apart from the missed calls, I saw some messages too mostly from my coursemates and a few from my professors. I replied as much as I can to some of them before my mind drifted to Eros unconsciously. I haven't heard from him since he left from our place after the funeral. No texts or calls either and here I thought things are just naturally falling into place for the better. Deciding not to sulk I started working on my unfinished projects and assignments till Ethan comes.

An hour later I heard the door bell ringing so I went downstairs to get the door, looks like Ethan is here already. I opened the door but it wasn't Ethan, it was none other than my hubby Eros.

"Hi " I said awkwardly letting him in
"I didn't expect to see you too soon" I said to him but my subconscious reacted you were thinking about him a while ago

"Well I am your husband so I have to act the part right" he answered me coming inside

"Wait... don't tell me that all these while you have been nice is just acting ?" I asked him flabbergasted

"Is there anything wrong with acting nice to my in-laws?" He asked me yet again

"Do you know you sound like a conceited jerk right now" I told him plainly

"Ooh now do I? See Evelyn I don't wanna fight with you now. Isn't it obvious why I am here so why are you acting up all of a sudden" he asked me exasperated

Just then we heard foot steps coming down from the stairs. We looked up almost at the same time and saw aunt Jasmine coming down.

"Uummh...would you like tea or coffee" I asked Eros sweetly.  He looked at me confused probably at my sudden change in tone. I inaudibly mouthed "my aunt " to him. I guess he caught on because he acted naturally in his next response

"Come on babe you know your coffee has always been my favorite since you first made them for me" he said smiling

"And please don't add plenty of sugar like you did the last time" he said smirking at me.

I left the living room with my mouth agape that guy sure can win a Grammy award for the best actor. What's with the sudden change in tone and voice he even went as far as calling me babe. Gosh my poor heart couldn't handle it so it started pumping blood faster than the normal rate. Since aunt Jasmine was in the living room I prepared extra two cups of tea with Eros' coffee and came back. I met them talking and my aunt was blushing all over like a high school girl.

"Your husband is such a charmer with his words" aunt Jasmine said to me as I came in with the tray of tea and coffee.

"He said he could introduce me to one of his friends in the modeling agency since I have the looks and the body" she said smiling

"I mean I know I am pretty and all that but I didn't know I could give the models a run for their money if I surfaced in the industry" she continued smiling sheepishly

"Come on aunt Jasmine I know he was only trying to be polite. I mean have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately?" I asked her sarcastically serving her a cup of tea and Eros his cup of coffee

"If not you were my niece I could literally knocked you out cold and take this young man away from you" she said seriously

"Truth the say is a very bitter pill to swallow. Just a reminder though don't take his words to heart and raise your hope up. He is such a smooth talker" I said looking at him directly in the eye

"Oh my darling wife I will take that as a compliment. Is that the reason why you fell for me so hard after we got married" he said stylishly still smirking at me . I choked on my tea as soon as I heard what he uttered.

"Oooh you wish, I am merely managing you and saving the rest of my gender from having a forever with a being like you" I retorted. I can't let him win on this word game we are playing with my aunt watching

"Care to explain what you mean by "a being like me" he said staring at me intently with a smirk.

Just then the door bell rang and I thanked the heavens for the save. I immediately rushed to open the door to evade answering his question. I opened the door and finally it was Ethan

"Took you long enough" I told him letting him in. This whole thing with Eros wouldn't have happened if he was a tad bit earlier than Eros.

"Did you miss me so much" he said jokingly while entering inside. He stopped in his tracks as soon as as he saw Eros.

"Good afternoon sir, good afternoon aunt Jasmine", he greeted them respectively while taking a seat.

Sometimes I do forget that Eros is Ethan's boss because he interns at his company.

"I will make a cup of tea for you I will be right back" I told Ethan leaving for the kitchen.

I came back a few minutes later I saw that there was an awkward silence hanging in the air. I cleared my throat before handing Ethan his tea.

"So how is your dad feeling now, is he all better" Ethan asked me taking a sip from his tea

"He hasn't woken up since after he had his breakfast and took some tablets" I replied him

"What is wrong with your dad isn't he okay?" Eros asked me sounding very concerned

"He is fine he just has a fever, I bet he will be as good as new once he wakes up" I said trying to reassure him

"You should have told me as soon as I got here so that I will take him to the hospital and have some tests run on him" he said exasperated

"Don't worry Eros is nothing serious and like Evelyn said he will be okay as soon as he rests up its just stress," Aunt Jasmine confirmed

"You know I may not look it but I am indeed a nurse", she said convincing Eros

"Can I see him then?" Eros asked
"I promise I won't disturb his sleep" he said

"Sure...why not" aunt Jasmine replied taking Eros to dad's room.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding immediately Eros left with aunt Jasmine

"You know you shouldn't keep such from him" Ethan said
"He has every right to know because he is your husband" he completed

"Please not you too, I have heard a lot of that preaching lately" I told him

Just then Ethan's phone rang  he checked the caller ID and he hesitated a little before he stood up.

"I need to take this call, I will be back soon" he said to me.

"Sure...go ahead" I replied him nonchalantly. Lately I feel he is being distant or maybe it's just in my head.
