Chapter 23 - Retreat

Lazarus took it, starting to read through it before he cursed, "Those idiots. Levi is not alone anymore. He could find them easily."

"Where are they?" Lorena asked.

"They didn't say. They just wrote that they will be back in a few days."

"But why?" Blayth asked, turning to Atrabilious as he asked, "Do you know?"

"I cannot divulge that information." Atrabilious said simply.

"Atrabilious. If you know something that will help us find them then tell us." Lazarus insisted.

"They are not in danger." Atrabilious said instead.

"Ray-..." Logan said, but was cut off.

"My king is safe. They are safe. If anything goes wrong I will fly there myself." Atrabilious said, "But them leaving is a necessity to their sanity. I will not get in the way of that. Besides, two days and they will be back."

"Are you still linked to him?" Lazarus asked.

"Always." He replied.

"Then tell him to return." Lazarus ordered.

"I will not." Atrabilious replied curtly.

"Atrabilious, do not anger me right now. Do as I say."

"I am sorry, but I won't." Atrabilious replied, "My king wishes for privacy, but not speaking through the link is the most I could give him right now. I never initiate it. He always does. I will keep intoned to him, but I will not interrupt his time with his beloved. Not when he really needs it."

"Ray, maybe it is not a good idea to let them be with those lunatics out there. You don't know how insane of a mage Ruben truly is."

"Do not interfere. You know better than to get between a dragon and his king." Atrabilious said simply.

"He is my king too, Ray." Logan protested.

"He is no one's king right now, and won't be if he is dead." Lazarus said furiously.

"I will not say a word, so do not try." Atrabilious replied before turning around and leaving the room.

"Two days." Tobias said, "Let us wait that long before we sound the alarms."

"I am not feeling good about this." Lazarus frowned.

"Neither do I." Edmur said, "But I always see him, and I have not seen him harmed."

"You cannot see him around Levi." Lazarus reminded.

"Levi is not powerful enough right now to do anything. Opening the portal weakened him." Tobias reminded.

"If he is not back in two days we will go searching for them." Lazarus declared before walking away.

Blayth tugged at Leon's sleeve as he said, "Make me breakfast?"

Leon rolled his eyes before heading to the kitchen, saying, "Anyone hungry?"

Almost all of them followed him into the kitchen, some helping while others like Blayth sat there, watching him work silently, mesmerized by his muscles as he moved around the kitchen, bending over drawers, lifting pans.

"Stop ogling me like a piece of meat and help." Leon said after a while, an eyebrow arched at Blayth.

"A damn beautifully made piece of meat." Blayth winked, "and by the way, I am ready."

"What for?" Leon asked as Blayth got to his feet, rounding the counter before grabbing a hold of Leon, a hand clutching his nape as he pulled him in for a deep kiss. Leon, as always, not able to resist, let go of the pan, turning to him as he pulled him close, his hands against his waist as he let all his hunger for the man show in that kiss.
