"The owner down from our shop is trying to kill our business again," he rests against the corner of the wall, arms crossed over his chest. He sighs while lowering his head. "He's boosted his sales price again. He's doing coupons, three-day sales, and on Fridays, he's going down to seventy percent off, so how can I compete with that?"
Placing my coffee cup on my black, nightstand, I look at him with tired eyes but try my hardest to seem interested in his store conflict.
"Maybe it's time you lowered your prices, too. After all, why would anyone come to you if they can get the same items cheaper from the store next door? Think about it. You can also try it for a while just to see how it'll work out." I shrug, reaching for my coffee cup but am taken off guard when he rushes forward and hugs me.
"Vee, what would I do without you?" He pulls away.
"I'm going to do it today. I'll try lowering the prices, and I'll have the employees go around and mark down every item." He smiles while rushing out of the room. "I picked up some breakfast while I was out. Make sure you eat it!" He yells from downstairs with the front door slamming behind him.
I chuckle. It would be rare to have a normal day around the house.
Standing up, I stretch my arms high in the air. I take the coffee cup and go downstairs to the kitchen. I know he went a few blocks away to the gas station to get the coffee and breakfast. While Dad isn't the best man in the world, he comes through at the right moments, such as now.
I smile while opening the white, takeout box and seeing pancakes, bacon, sausage, and a breakfast burrito. It might sound like a lot, but considering we didn't have dinner last night, I could eat it all.
Before I plunge the plastic fork into the pancakes, I stop what I'm doing when Dad comes bursting through the front door with glee.
"What the hell are you doing back?" I snap, annoyed at the intrusion. However, that doesn't stop him from coming over and jumping up and down like a toddler in front of the table.
"He's ruined!" He yells, laughing like a madman.
"Who?" I take the chance to bite a piece of my pancake when he's busy explaining.
"The store owner beside us! This is great. The Street Murderer guy targetted his store last night and exposed the owner's dirty secrets. From what I read on the glass windows, he could only pay for that store by cheating on his wife with his Sugar Daddy! I never thought about him being with a man," he steals a piece of bacon.
More irritated with him stealing food, I sigh aloud. "Well, you can't judge people based on their appearances, Dad. Anyway, how did you find out about his store so quickly? You normally avoid looking at it."
"There's a crowd and a news station vehicle parked beside the store—"
"You left the store? Dad, there's a good opportunity to make money. People are around your store, hurry up. They could be thirsty, hungry, or wanting to get out of the cold!" I rush him out of the house with my words. He doesn't tell me bye before he runs out of the front door in the direction of his store.
I eat my food while he's gone, and this time, I get to finish my meal. I skip the shower and get dressed in my work outfit. Hopefully, without having any more sudden outbursts.
