A/N Mason fluff <3

Storms always made you anxious growing up, the sounds followed by thunder causing worst case scenarios to go through your young mind. While the anxiety is less severe now there is still a slight fear whenever a bad storm passes through town.

Even though you know about the storm that is expected when Mason is away from home you still feel nervous while sitting on the couch with a film playing on the telly. You try to distract yourself when you hear the wind picking up outside, the blanket you've pulled around yourself acting as a form of security while you turn up the volume on the film. When you start to relax slightly after not hearing anything outside you smile and loosen the hold you have on the fluffy material cocooning your body. As your focus goes back to the film you don't realize that the wind was the warning for the storm to come.

Minutes later a loud clap of thunder makes you jump and let out a nervous squeak. You shake it off, taking a couple of deep breaths to calm down, the sound of rain hitting the window muffling the telly slightly. The hand not holding the remote goes to your phone, your fingers quickly unlocking it and automatically finding Mason's contact, hovering over his number for a few seconds before shaking your head. Mumbling to yourself that he deserves to enjoy his team dinner without having to worry about you.

The words you told yourself are forgotten immediately when the power goes out. A whimper leaving your lips at the pitch blackness of the room as your fingers find Mason's contact once more. This time not hesitating to touch the call button before bringing the phone to your ear. "I'm almost home darling" is how he answers the call, "Mase" you whimper and feel your anxiety bubble up, "I'm coming my love, just take some deep breaths alright" he explains soothingly, "the power is out, I don't want to move, please don't get into a wreck" you babble. "I can see the house Y/N, I'm going to hang up so that I can park and go inside" your demeanour changes when the sound of his car comes to your ears, "okay" he hangs up and you lower your phone.

The anxiety that was bubbling up stops when you hear the front door opening and closing. You relax a bit when what you assume is Mason's phone flashlight turns on in the entryway. "Baby where are you?" he asks while walking into the living space, you sit up slightly at his voice, "on the couch" you reply and watch him turn around while lowering his phone as to not blind you. His footsteps echo through the darkness before you feel the couch dip next to you, his face close enough for you to see his worried expression. "You alright?" he asks while pulling you to his chest, "shaken up but I'll be okay" you explain and show him a small smile.

He starts to trace shapes on your back as if by instinct, you hum in satisfaction and lean your head against his chest while loosely bringing your arms around his torso. "Looks like we might be having some candlelit meals for a bit if the power doesn't get back on" Mason murmurs which makes you smile into his shirt, "sounds magical if you ask me" you say earning a chuckle out of the footballer, "I'll keep that in mind for our next date night" you kiss his chest and relax into his arms in response. He kisses your head softly and continues to move his fingers along your back, "I should've been here with you" he murmurs quietly. You lift your head at his statement, a frown on your face as you bring a hand up to his cheek, "and miss the team dinner? no way Mase" you reply with a shake of your head. "It doesn't matter, you're here now and that's what matters" he sighs but doesn't respond, only shuts off the light coming from his phone, bathing the two of you in darkness again. "I just worry about you Y/N" he says quietly, "and I worry about you Mase" you reply and smile up at the footballer, he shakes his head and you shift your body to be able to press a soft kiss to his pouting lips. "Thank you" you whisper when pulling away, "for what baby?" you kiss his cheek, "for taking care of me when I get scared, or anxious, or sad" he smiles and pulls you back in for a kiss, his hand moving to cradle your face.

As you start to straddle Mason's lap the lights suddenly turn on, the tv following quickly after making you jump. He keeps pressing kisses down your neck towards your collarbone, his fingers sneaking under the hoodie you're wearing. But the only thing you can focus on is the brightness of the room, "wait Mase" you mumble with a gentle hand going to his chest, he lifts his head in confusion which gives you the opportunity to slide off his lap. He pouts and watches you turn off the telly before walking over to the light switch, you bite your lip as you turn off the lights, your gaze locked with the footballer's. "Too bright" is what you mumble as you climb back onto his lap, your lips lowering to his once more to pickup where you left off before the electricity came back on, his fingers finding your skin again, easily making you forget about your earlier anxiety from the storm. His caring embrace always making you feel safe and loved.
