Today is a big day for fifth year residents

Today is a big day for fifth year residents. It is solo surgery day. It was quite up in the air if I'd be doing cardio or neuro, but I decided to go with neuro. I have more experience in it and if I were to choose a single specialty, that's what it'd be. We're all just waiting for the schedule. All I know is that I am clipping an aneurysm. My aneurysm. I'm so excited...and slightly terrified.

Meredith still hasn't heard anything about Zola. I'm even getting impatient and it's not my kid.

All of us approached the board to see the schedule was finally up.

Cristina is doing a valve replacement. "O.R. 3. Yes! I love O.R. 3." Cristina cheered.

We looked to see Alex's. "Wait. Bowel resection? I thought you had a peds case?" Meredith asked. Yeah, that's odd.

"I switched last minute." Alex replied.

"You can't just switch!" April protested.

"Oh, plastics. I thought you were the gunther. Wasting all your capital on boob jobs, huh?" Cristina said to Jackson. Oh, that's where she's wrong. Jackson has not stopped talking about his solo surgery.

"It's a cleft lip. I'm changing a kids' life today. Look at Kepner, she's fixing a bum knee. Way to shoot for the stars, kid." Jackson replied and then looked up to my surgery. "My girlfriend kicks all of your asses. She's clipping an aneurysm by herself today."

I looked up at him and smiled. He is my biggest fan.

"Uh, you also start teaching skills labs today. I made up a schedule for the month. It's up on the board in my office." April told us.

Wait a minute....office?

"In your what?" I asked her.

She led us to her office. Wow.

"When did we get this?" Cristina asked. I looked around smiled. Nice.

"Uh, we didn't. It's for the Chief Resident, actually." April tried. We all ignored her.

"This is good. I can sleep on this." Alex said and laid down on the couch.

I went over to the fridge excitedly. "We got a fridge?" This is great.

Cristina approached a white board. "Why is my name on this?"

"These are this month's intern skills labs. Each of you has been given one skills lab to teach." April said.

Mer, Alex, Jackson and I sat on the couch. As soon as I sat next to Jackson, he put his arm around my shoulder. Whenever we sit next to each other, no matter where we are, he has his hand somewhere on me, whether it's around my shoulders, on my leg or just holding my hand. But not in a territorial or toxic way. It's almost like we're assuring each other we're not alone. I didn't think I was much of a PDA person until I met him. I just feel so...comfortable around him. I also never knew he was such a romantic.
