"I swear you were just a kid yesterday and now you're an adult who's about to kick Zalgo's ass."
"That's how life works besides kicking a demon's ass." We chuckled before we both held each other.
"Be careful, kid. We don't want to lose our niece."
"I'm not your niece," I reminded him.
"No, Y/N. You are." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "We may not be related by blood, but Slenderman raised you alongside us. You are family to us."
I tried to swallow the lump in my throat as I fought the tears threatening to fall. I was separated from my parents when I was one, but the only family figures that I had were the Slender brothers. Zen raised me for almost six years, but the Slender brothers were with me during the whole time. It felt like I was betraying them if I were to leave. I started walking away before I turned around to look at them for the last time.
"Take care of Sally for me," I softly spoke.
"Don't worry Y/N, she's in good hands." Splendor reassured me, completely oblivious to what I meant.
As I exited the living room, I realized I needed to protect Sally from becoming my replacement. I couldn't let her fall into my footsteps.
I soon found myself standing in front of Slenderman's doors, trying to think of what to say. Without thinking, I knocked on the door before opening it.
Slenderman held the same box from the time he came back from his mission in his hands.
"I'm just about to leave Y/N. I'll be there in a minute."
"Sir, I wanted to talk to you for a second."
Don't get me wrong, I was still pissed at him about yesterday, but I had to play my cards right if I wanted to protect Sally.
"Make it quick." He signaled at the chair for me to sit on.
"As we both know, I'm not immortal and I can die at any second," I started speaking as I made my way towards the chair.
"This is why you won't be fighting."
I was about to remind him about how immortality didn't work at the under realm but got reminded that I wasn't supposed to know.
"But it'll eventually happen. I could die at any day." I paused as I took a deep breath. "I want to make sure Sally doesn't become the next proxy in command if anything were to happen to me."
Slenderman was about to say something, but I interrupted him.
"I believe Masky will be an ideal candidate for it. He knows how to work as a team and he's capable of doing the work."
"He keeps arguing with Toby."
"I used to have arguments with Masky all the time, but we learned to get along," I explained. "He can work things out with Toby."
"I'll think about it."
I stood up and placed my hands on his desk.
"No! I need you to promise that to me before we go."
So much for wanting to play my cards right.
He raised himself from the chair and slammed his hands onto the table.
"Who are you to command me? Last time I recalled, you're my proxy. I make the orders and you follow them."
"I've been damn loyal to you for years! It's the least you can do!"
"I saved you! I raised you after your parents abandoned you in my territory! You owe me your life!"
I pulled back as I laughed. "Did that actually happen? Because I'm starting to think you're only using that lie to make me believe I owe you my life and that I need to serve you."
Slenderman remained quiet at my response, shocked at what I said.
"It doesn't matter how you got here. You are living underneath my roof which means you follow my orders. If you disobey, death will await you."
I growled before walking away. There was no point in me continuing this conversation.
Before I got to the door, Slenderman teleported in front of me and used his tendrils to take my knives from my thigh straps.
"Give them back!" I yelled.
"I told you, you are not fighting so you won't be needing these." Slenderman threw the knives across the room and grabbed my arms as he pushed me out of his room.
"Let me go!" I grunted as I tried to get rid of his tendrils.
"Keep that same energy and I will knock you out just so you don't join us."
Slenderman let his tendrils go of my arm before locking the door to his office and teleported out.
I clenched my jaw as I glared at where he was standing.
"You're no longer my master so I'm not obligated to follow your damn orders." My hands traced at the dagger I had hidden underneath my jacket. "I said I was going to kill him and no one is going to stop me, not even you."
(...)
After Slenderman said his goodbyes to his brothers and Sally, we finally started walking to the forest. I couldn't make myself glance at the Slender brothers nor Sally knowing of my future decision.
Even though we argued a few minutes ago, Slenderman and I were in front of the group with the proxies behind us and the rest of them behind them.
Every second that passed was a second closer to meeting up with Zalgo. To say the least, I was unsure of what would happen. Any one of us could die once we take a step at his kingdom and Zalgo's promises didn't help either.
Finally, the black pillars were in front of us which caused my heart to pound. We were finally about to go inside.
"Everyone remembers our battle strategy from yesterday?" Slenderman asked us.
Battle strategy? They probably went over it while I was gone.
The pastas nodded while I remained oblivious to it.
Slenderman breathed out before taking another step closer towards the pillars.
"Let the battle begin."
