Natasha had given up on the idea of having children long ago, but when Tony approached her saying that he may have found a way to reverse the procedure the red room had performed upon her graduation she found herself becoming hopeful. Although she was sceptical, she knew that if anyone was capable of doing so it would be Tony. That was how six months later, Natasha nervously held Wanda's hand as they waited to see the result on a pregnancy test. They had been dating for a while and Wanda supported Natasha completely with her choice to try for children. Natasha held her breath as Wanda passed her over the test and to Natasha's absolute delight it was positive. She didn't think she had ever been happier and Wanda kissed her softly to celebrate the incredible news with the woman she loved.
Nine months later, Natasha and Wanda were in the medbay of the compound and after hours of labour, Natasha was handed a beautiful baby girl. Natasha couldn't help but cry happy tears as she stared lovingly at the baby in her arms. Natasha had vowed in that moment she would do anything she could to protect her. Natasha and Wanda named the baby Y/N Y/M/N Romanoff.
You couldn't have asked for a better family. Eventually Wanda and Natasha had married and Wanda had carried twins, Tommy and Billy your younger brothers. You had an amazing childhood surrounded by two loving parents and your extended family - the Avengers. As you grew up, you had loved learning about how Wanda's powers worked and you practically idolised Natasha, wanting her to teach you everything she knew about being a spy and Avenger. Natasha trained with you from a young age as she could see how much you wanted to learn and how you envied the skills your brothers had because of their powered. Knowing you would be able to protect yourself made Natasha feel reassured that you would always be safe.
By the time you had turned 16, anyone that knew you would say that you had incredible skills in both combat and espionage. Natasha had taught you everything she knew and your dream was to be an Avenger just like your parents. So eventually, you approached the team and asked if you could go on a mission with them. You knew you were ready and you couldn't help the excitement you felt at the prospect of finally getting to work alongside your family. What you hadn't expected was the firm no you had received from everyone, including the two people you had desperately wanted to have your back - your parents. You felt your heart sink as they just kept telling you, you weren't ready and that you would be at risk and a liability out on the field. They told you that you were too young and you could feel the tears in your eyes as they dismissed your request. Natasha had seen the disheartened look on your face and explained to you that she didn't want to risk you getting hurt and that she knew you were disappointed, but they wouldn't risk putting you in harms way, so knowing they wouldn't change their minds, you nodded before skulking away to sulk alone.
You remained in your bad mood for the next three days and spent your time either locked in your room, training in the gym or dejectedly walking around the compound. Your luck changed however, when you happened to walk past one of the briefing rooms. The door had been left open slightly and laying on the desk were the reports for the next mission. Swiftly you read through the reports, memorising the plans and walkthrough of the mission, before sneaking back out of the room so set your plan in motion.
That was how you found yourself stowed away in the very back of the quinjet. You could hear the murmurs of the team as they discussed their plan of action, so you listened closely and held your breathe in excited anticipation for the jet to land. After what felt like hours, you felt the jet land and when you were certain that everyone had set out to start the mission, you followed. You didn't get to close to the Avengers, knowing Natasha would be the first to stop you and send you back to the jet so you made the decision to hang back until it would be too late for anyone to stop you.
The mission had been going well, until a large bunker with a turret had pinned down the Avengers. You could see they were trapped with agents closing in on their position, so swiftly you flanked the bunker and make quick work of dispatching any enemy agents that stood in your way and using a grenade to destroy the bunker. You then used the widows bites you had taken from Natasha's weapon storage on the jet to take down the remaining agents on the field. The buzz of adrenaline was incredible and you couldn't help the broad smile that appeared on your face when you turned to face your family. What you hadn't realised was that one of the men behind you had managed to remove the widows bite and had silently raised his gun at you. Before anyone could reach you, you felt a bullet tear through your shoulder. The pain was excruciating, but you took after your mother, so gritted your teeth and kicked the agent in the face knocking him out cold.
Natasha was the first to reach you and apply pressure to your wound, not saying a word as she lead you quickly to the jet. She bandaged you up in silence, not even glancing at your face. You went to say something to her, but the fierce glare you received and the anger you could see behind her eyes made you immediately shut your mouth. You had never seen her so angry before, but you would never have expected her to react so coldly. Natasha stared at you momentarily before saying "how could you be so stupid? What is your mama going to say? I told you that you weren't ready and you blatantly disregarded everything I said to you. What were you trying to do, prove yourself? Well guess what, you didn't Y/N, you just ended up hurt. You're still a child and today only proved that to me. I'm so disappointed in you". You blinked rapidly in an attempt to stop the tears that were threatening to fall down your face, so you weakly muttered an "I'm sorry mum" and moved away from her. You instead sat alone at the back of the jet away from everyone else desperately trying not to cry, feeling hurt and ashamed of yourself. Natasha had never looked at you that way let alone spoken to you like that and you couldn't help but feel heartbroken that your idol was disappointed in you. You sat still, not daring to move or speak, until you began to feel lightheaded from due to the blood loss from your injury and black spots appeared in your vision. The last thing you remembered seeing, was Clint rushing over to you, as you slumped over eventually falling unconscious.
You woke up in a bed in the medbay alone. Initially you felt disoriented and groggy, but as you came around and noticed your arm in a cast and sling, everything came back to you. You felt the unbearable ache settle in your heart and a wave of sadness washed over you. Eventually, a doctor came to check you over, but there was still no sign of your mum and mama. You were discharged alone and made the lonely walk back to your room, no one waiting for you. So as you closed your bedroom door, you let the tears that you hadn't let fall, flow freely, realising that you had really messed up and no one wanted to see you not even your parents.
You didn't leave your room for days, and no body made any attempt to come and see you. It wasn't until late that night, when you awoke sweating and crying after a nightmare, that you desperately called out for Natasha and Wanda.  You were trembling and sobbing as Wanda cautiously made her way to you. Upon seeing her you immediately cried out "I'm sorry mama please don't go". Wanda was quick to hold you in her arms, rocking you back and forth to try and calm you down. "Shhhh dorogoy, I've got you I'm here" Wanda whispered quietly. It wasn't until you had calmed down that you noticed she was in her mission suit and it suddenly clicked that Wanda hadn't been avoiding you, she had been on a mission. The thought that she didn't hate you only made you cling on to her tighter, happy to have at least someone that wanted you. Eventually, Wanda managed to soothe you back to sleep with your favourite lullaby, and as she saw you finally relax a frown immediately appeared on her face. She had read your mind and new exactly what had happened and to say she was furious was an understatement. Yes she was upset you had disobeyed them, but she was more angry that Natasha and the others had treated you so poorly. So Wanda marched her way to her shared room with Natasha and scowled at her wife the second she caught sight of her. Wanda didn't even give Natasha a chance to speak before she said "how could you say those things Natasha? And worst of all she now thinks you all hate her. She is our daughter Nat and she is heartbroken because she thinks her idol, her mummy, wants nothing more to do with her. I know she disobeyed us and got hurt, but Jesus Christ you've completely shut her out". Natasha looked completely stunned at Wanda's outburst. She had known she was in the wrong, but she just couldn't bring herself to face her daughter, because she felt deeply responsible for what had happened. Natasha didn't need to say a word because Wanda had heard her loud and guilty thoughts, so instead Wanda sighed and sat in the bed to hold Natasha's hands. "Look Nat, I know you were scared, and I know you blame yourself, but pushing her away is only hurting her. She is stubborn just like you, but she is also talented and wants to be just like you. She didn't disobey us to be difficult, she is just desperate to prove herself, because honestly Nat when you tell her how proud you are, her face lights up and she looks at you like you hung the stars in the sky. She just wants you back". Natasha nodded with tears in her eyes and kissed Wanda deeply to show how much she appreciated the pep talk. Then Natasha determinedly made her way into your bedroom, where she sat with you while you slept waiting for you to wake up.
Another nightmare was your reason for waking up again later on that night and you could feel yourself trembling again. Steady hands were placed on top of yours and you couldn't help the gasp that fell from your lips as you made eye contact with your mum. Your bottom lip trembled at finally seeing her again, and you couldn't help the tears that fell. Natasha held you close and when you had finally calmed down, you went to move away, muttering "I'm sorry you don't have to stay, I know you don't want to see me". Natasha's heart ached as you spoke and she was quick to hold you tightly before whispering "I'm the one that should be sorry malyshka, I shouldn't have pushed you away. I always want to see you and I certainly shouldn't have said those awful things to you and ignored you. I love you so much, you are my entire world, I just couldn't bear the thought that you had been hurt trying to be like me. But I need to accept that fact that you're growing up and seeing you in action made me so proud. You're talented and the way you handled yourself out there made me realise that I can't protect you forever. You're more than capable of handling yourself and looking at you now makes me realise how similar we are. You're my mini me Y/N and I love you more than anything". You looked up at Natasha and in an instant held onto her tightly again. "I love you mummy and I'm sorry I didn't listen" you whispered. "It's okay Y/N. I just want you to be safe. You know, I think that you're ready to help out more, but it's going to start out small okay only recon missions and then as we do some more training we can up them okay, together?". You nodded and snuggled into Natasha as you felt sleep take over again, happy that you had the most important people in your life back again.
