I ate in silence as I heard every conversation around me. Jeff was bragging about his recent kill to most of the Pastas, Painter spoke to Puppeteer about him running out of blood to paint, and the Slender brothers about their plans for today. Although, I couldn't hear them clearly since Jeff was loud.

I take it that you're feeling better Y/N? Senderman mentally asked me.

I nodded my head, ignoring his gaze.

"I have an important announcement to make." In a matter of seconds, the room quieted down. All eyes were on Slenerman except for mine.

"I have to leave for a few days due to an urgent matter at hand. During my absence, Y/N will be in charge."

I quickly glanced at him in shock. I expected him to place one of his brothers in charge, but me? What was so urgent that he had to leave us anyway?

"Training will continue and I expect to see improvement after I return. Is that clear?"

Everyone nodded beside his brothers and me.

"My proxies, as I announced last night, you will have an important mission late afternoon. I will already be gone by the time of your arrival, but I still expect a mission report. I will go on further details after breakfast in my office."

I glanced away as I thought about the mission. Why would he cancel our morning patrol for a late afternoon mission?

(...)

After breakfast, the proxies and I waited for Slenderman outside the door. After he arrived, we went inside. Toby and I sat on the chairs while Masky and Hoodie stood in between us.

"I've been trying to strengthen my abilities in sensing humans and immortals in the forest. It's still a work in progress however, I sense there's a human living in our cottage. They keep going in and I need you four to extinguish him."

"When do we leave?" Masky asked.

"Around five in the afternoon. They're usually at the cottage at that time and I want them eliminated as soon as possible. They shouldn't be armed so the mission should run smoothly."

Zen was the first one that popped into my mind. I didn't know where he sought refugee since I've only seen him in the forest. Although if he was indeed banished from the forest, then he must have lived in the city throughout these years.

"Slender, wouldn't it be beneficial to carry out on the mission at night when they're asleep?" Hoodie pointed out.

"No."

I furrowed my eyebrows at his response. "Hoodie makes a point. Plus the mission should take us a few minutes to get it done. I doubt it'll ruin our performance for our usual patrol."

"I said the mission will take place at five and that's final," he slammed his hands on his desk as he looked directly at me.

Instead of flinching, I stared directly at him. It made me remember all those countless times when he shouted at me to do better when I was a kid. I was surprised my comment made him react like that.

He turned around to look at the other proxies, "You three are dismissed. I need to talk to y/n alone."

I glanced at the three proxies and surely enough, they glanced at me too. They were probably shocked that they had witnessed Slenderman yell at his second in command. I kept my gaze on the floor until I heard the door shut. I finally dared to look at Slenderman.

"Slender, I don't-"

"Slenderman," he corrected me.

I was quiet for a few seconds as I debated what to say next.
