Today's poetic form is the Chinese "Chueh-chu" (translation: sonnet cut short)! It has 8 lines separated into 2 quatrains. There isn't a syllable limit per line but you have to be consistent with the number of syllables you pick throughout the poem. It has several rhyme scheme variations and again you can pick whichever one you want:
1. A A B A C A D A
2. A B C B D B E B
3. A A B A A A C A

the light on the water - observe how it dances
an optical illusion - on your eyes it flashes
a hypnotizing mirage - the impetus to lull
an incessant habit - until your body splashes

into the seas - the ones you stared at wistfully
into the oceans - the future's looking glasses
a chilling vision- one of death or one of hope?
the light never stops - 'til the next poor soul glances
