Today's poetic form is the Japanese "Kouta". It is a quatrain divided into 2 versions only differing on the syllable count per line. The first version has a syllable pattern of 7/5/7/5 and the second version a syllable pattern of 7/7/7/5. There are no rules concerning rhyming, refrain, themes, metre etc.
