Today's poetic form is the "Bop". It's 3 stanzas long, the first stanza has 6 lines, the second 8, and the third 6. In between each stanza, there's a refrain. The given example on the website has 10 syllables per line, but there's no mention of syllable restrictions.

Here's more about the structure (credit to Robert Lee Brewer):

-3 stanzas
-Each stanza is followed by a refrain
-First stanza is 6 lines long and presents a problem
-Second stanza is 8 lines long and explores or expands the problem
-Third stanza is 6 lines long and either presents a solution or documents the failed attempt to resolve the problem.

I caught you watching me tentatively
and then you turned away, leaving me to wonder
why are you looking at me with such ache?
I've pondered tirelessly and yet
I remain oblivious. Is it something I said?
Absurd, when I have only been quiet.

Alas, sleepless nights of contemplation have proved to be futile.

But what if there's something there?
invisible to the naked eye
Like the way your shadow covers mine
Or how you always take my side
As if there's a silent pact between us
Signed by the longing in our eyes
when they meet at random times
So tragic to have the answers and yet keep me in the dark.

Alas, sleepless nights of contemplation have proved to be futile.

I never got an answer, and I dare not
assume one. So, you shall remain
an unsolvable mystery, a riddle for sharp minds.
For our paths have diverged, just like our gazes
did for one last time, a lifetime ago.
A fond reminder of what a coward you were.

Alas, sleepless nights of contemplation have proved to be futile.
