Through the Dark // Liam Payne fanfic

Chapter 26

It all happened so fast, it was like a scene out of a movie. The cops barged through the door as the blue and red lights flashed, the only source of light in the room. Sirens filled my ears as people scrambled into the room. Silver guns blinded me as gun shots were fired countless times. My focus was shifted as I felt myself being pushed onto the small hospital bed beside me. I shielded myself from flying glass from the now shattered hospital windows. I looked up just in time to see the gun pierce through Liam's side as he crumbled to the floor in agony.

I screamed so loud which caused many more to pile into the room. Even in the near dark, I could see the pool of dark red blood surrounding his lifeless body on the floor. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as I rushed to his side, cutting myself on the broken glass scattered among the dark bloody floor. I crouched down at his side and couldn't help but break down at the sight of him

Blood continuously poured out of his left side creating a pool of red to float around the broken glass around him. He was slumped against the chair next to the bed with one arm linked through the chair, trying to hold on. His breathing came out in slow ragged breaths and occasional winces of pain escaped his lips. His eyes were screwed shut, trying to focus on breathing and his face was twisted in pain and discomfort.

Cops and nurses rushed into the room bringing panic and fear to the rest of the patients. Many were shouting screaming and crying and the cops and ENTs ran around like madmen trying to arrest Alex and make sure there was nobody else who could be a threat to this hospital.

"L-liam baby wake up" I cried "Liam please" I cried louder "please don't leave me" I said allowing my voice to crack. I was crying so hard my body hiccuped with each sob. Liam was still unresponsive.

"Liam please give me a sign your okay" no response. "Liam no!" My scream must have attracted the attention of a few people be uses cops and nurses instantly rushed to my side trying to pull me away.

"NO STOP" I yelled at them struggling to break free of their grip. "Let me go!" I shouted pushing whosever hands were on me and reverting my attention back to Liam.

"Liam if you can hear me, I love you and please don't ever forget that" I whispered through my tears and hiccups. I held his hand in mine and continued to kneel in the bloody glass around him.

I pushed his hair off his face and tried to wipe the blood away, only making it worse. I shifted my position so I was sitting on the glass now facing him with my legs outstretched. Despite the darkness, the blood and glass, the flashing red and blue lights and the blazing sirens, I still managed to make out his features and inhale his scent for what may be the last time.

For once, he looked at peace. His eyes were no longer screwed shut and his jaw was not clenched in agony. His face was no longer twisted in pain. He simply looked as if he were sleeping. I smiled through my tears, despite everything going on around us. This isn't exactly how I wanted to remember him, but it was better than his face twisted in pain.

I was lost in thought when someone came up behind me and tried to pull me away. Without turning to see who it was, I instinctively yanked my arm away and told them to leave me alone. This person then scooped me up bridal style. I was about to thrash and yell when I realized it was Louis. He had tear stained cheeks and puffy eyes that I could barely make out in the darkness. He looked at me with glossy eyes and I couldn't help but let a few tears slip.

"He's gone" I whispered "he's gone" I said and weeped a little harder. Louis rubbed my back and turned around. That's when I noticed the other boys standing, only a foot or two, from where I was sitting.

Their eyes were filled with sorrow and anger. Their cheeks stained with wet tears and red blood. My eyes met Niall's glossy ones and I quickly turned to look at Harry who was crouching on the floor with bloodshot eyes. Zayn had his arms folded and his breathing coming out in tagged breaths as tears formed in his eyes.

My chest felt a lot heavier than it did a few minutes ago. I glanced over Louis's shoulder to find cops and nurses poking and examining Liam's still lifeless body. I bit my lip to prevent from crying as I rested my head on Louis's shoulder.

He took a deep ragged breath and headed for the door. We maneuvered our way through the cops and nurses and refused to speak to anyone. When we made it into the hallway he set me on my feet and I leaned against the wall for support. The boys soon made there way out to us.

The blaring lights and sirens and hysterics if everyone around us was too overwhelming. I slid down with back back against the wall and rested my head against the surface.

The boys must have thought I was having a mental breakdown and that I collapsed because they all rushed to my side in a panic. I didn't say anything to them. I just kept a steady emotionless gaze ahead of me and focused on breathing.

I was so tired and my chest felt like someone was stepping on it to torture me. I couldn't take a deep breath for the life of me. My eyelids soon became heavy and Harry sat next to me. I rested my head on his shoulder.

Before falling asleep, I took a look at all of us. We all looked worn out and exhausted. Our faces all had bloodshot eyes and tear stained puffy cheeks. Our clothes were soaked in blood and Louis still didn't have a shirt.

I soon became overcome with exhaustion and let sleep engulf my body as I passed out on Harry's shoulder- My dreams clouded with the vision of a broken lifeless Liam surrounded by a pool of dark red blood and shattered glass.
