Since most starters evolve around the first gym, I'll just put the middle evolutions here.

You continue on to the next route which is full of mostly bug type pokemon. There were a few other types coming up as well but this area seemed to be like a haven for the bug pokemon that live here.
About halfway through the route, you hear a cry for help. You run, going in the direction of the sound and soon see a confrontation between a kid and someone that looked like either a researcher or scientist of some sort.
"Listen kid, I'm really sorry that I have to do this but orders are orders." the researcher tried to reason but the kid simply shook their head, continuing to cry.
"No! You don't get to just take my Eevee just because you want it! Grownups shouldn't even be picking on little kids!" the kid then turns to you when they notice you there. "Please help me sir/miss! This stranger just came out of nowhere and stole my pokemon!"
Quickly you agree, challenging the researcher to a battle and in response, the researcher sighs, mumbling about how he doesn't get paid enough for this.
