“I’m busy.”

“I just wanted to—“

“Baby, I’ll just call you some other time, okay? I’m kinda busy right now, I just wanted to hear your voice even for a second that’s why I called you.” I heard him heaved a sigh.

“But Lance, I—“

“I love you, Mika. I’ll hold on to your promise. Take care of yourself.”

“Lance—damn!” he ended the call. Exhaustedly, I turned to Mikael. I shook my head. “He’s avoiding me, I guess…” I sighed. “Pumunta nalang kaya ako sakanya?” tanong ko dito.

“That’s not an option, Ai.” Hinila niya ako at niyakap. Nakasandal ako sa dibdib niya. Wala kaming lakad ngayon kaya naman nagstay nalang kami sa bahay niya. Ipinatong niya ang baba sa balikat ko.

“I love you, Mikaela,” he whispered. Nilingon ko siya at ngumiti. “I love you more. Mahal na mahal kita.” He kissed my cheeks and hugged me tighter.

“I haven’t explained myself to you…” he played my fingers with his hands. “Explain what?” I asked him. Wala naman akong maalalang ieexplain niya sa akin.

“Kung bakit ko ginawa ‘yun… kung bakit kita sinaktan noon,” he sighed deeply. “Ang laking gago ko. Sinasabi kong hindi ka dapat pinapaiyak pero ako mismo ang gumawa sa’yo nun, diba? Believe me, Ai, I never wanted to do that… Ginawa ko lang ‘yun kasi—“

“I’m not asking for explanations, Mikael. What happened, happened. Ayokong balikan ‘yung masakit na part. Nasaktan mo ako, nasaktan ka din naman. Ayoko nalang alamin ‘yung reason behind your actions. Ang importante sa akin, mahal mo ako.” I smiled. “Mahal na mahal mo ako,” I looked at him. “Diba?”

“Oo na. Mahal na mahal kita. Forever, right?” he said, laughing.

Humiwalay ako sakanya at humarap. “Don’t laugh at me. I’m serious. Mahal mo ako diba? I mean, hello, I’m Mikaela Michelle Dela Cruz. Maganda, mayaman, matalino,” tumaas ang isang kilay niya sa akin. “Ang yabang mo!” pinisil ko ang ilong niya. “Oo na, noob, happy?” I frowned. He nodded. “As I was saying, almost perfect na ako, wala ka ng hahanapin pa.”

“Bragger.” He smiled widely. “I’m not! I’m just saying the truth!” I smiled sweetly to him. He nodded. “Whatever you say, love.” He cupped my face and kissed my lips. “Saavedra needs to go home now. Naiinis akong hinahalikan ko ang girlfriend ng iba. It sucks, you know,” he puts his forehead on mine. “For others, this is wrong… I am dating you while Lance’s away. Pero Mikael, sa lahat ata ng ginawa ko, ‘yung minahal kita ang pinakatama.”

“No matter how wrong this love is for them, I don’t give a damn about their opinions. What matters to me is you. As long as I have you, wala akong ibang papansinin. I’ll protect you from them.”
