I jiggled the ice in my cup and sighed. It was already half way
melted mixing tasteless water with wine. I rested my head on the sofa
licking my lips and counted the seconds it took for them to dry up
again. Lily was busy in the kitchen. I could smell the cheese from all
the way in the living room. I turned my head to watch her tiny frame
move back and forth in her white cotton dress. She seemed angelic.
They don't make em like that anymore.
"Kim where do you keep the oregano?" she asked. I turned around and
started to watch a documentary on cows.
"Check the third cabinet on your um- left" I said picking my legs
up and dropping them on the table.
"Hello wonderful people!" Megan chimed as she came out her
bedroom. She's been stuck in there for over two hours and I could see
how that came along. She stood in front of me and Lily with a one
shoulder strap red dress. It some how fit her body and seemed to hang
off at the same time. There was no doubt her lashes were removable but
whatever the material she looked hot.
I made a low whistle which caused her to twirl. I admired the spin
of the bottom half .
"Where you going? You look amazing. A hot date?" Lily winked. I
mustered in a giggle. A hot one night stand. Megan shrugged and looked
my way.
"No. We're going out for a girls night!" she said throwing
herself next to me. I rolled my eyes.
"Is dinner finished?" I asked Lily who nodded.
"Come on guys! I know you need a night out Kim!" she said and
walked over to Lily. Lily bit her lips; no doubt she was tempted. A
night out with Megan meant a night out getting drunk. Right now I
needed to clear my head, put everything straight and this wasn't going
to help.
"I'll get that" Lily said as she ran towards the door. I hadn't
even heard the bell ring. Megan looked at me her eyes begging me to
get my sorry ass up from the couch remove the musty robe and pull on a
suitable outfit. I sniffed my armpits and scratched my head just to
screw with her mind. She rolled her eyes and smiled.
"I would so do you if you had balls" she joked and turned towards
Lily. Her white dress seem to be the perfect background for the bloody
red roses.
"Oooh. They are gorgeous!" Megan said grabbing the bouqet from
Lily's arm. Lily stared at me a bit confused. She bit her lips and
looked away for a while then stared back at me with the intensity of
cold winds. There was almost a sorry look on her face. She knew.
"They're for Kim" Lily said as she walked out of the room. I stared
after her and turned back towards Megan who was looking for a card.
"That's funny. There's no card here" she said twisting the
bouqet. I took in a deep breath and watched as Lily made her way back
into the room. She gave me a wink and a warm smile.
"I need a drink" I said grabbing the flowers from her shooting it
into the waste basket near the computer table. The swoosh sound as the
bouqet hit the bucket gave me a chill that ran slowly up and down my
spine.
Megan was happy to lend me her squence shirt while I made do with
black leather tights. I wasn't the one to party. Loud music was too
chaotic. I hated not knowing what song was on and it was just too loud
to understand the lyrics.
Still It was nice to be around strangers. People who didn't know
your problems and just didn't care.
The crowd pushed into me, like I had a circle of heat around my
body. The purple lights gave me the chills but also the warm sensation
and relief of being lost. Megan was batting her eye lashes at the bar
tender while Lily sat next to Lance. I wiggled through the crowd on
the dance floor with two glasses of Bloody Mary waiting to spill. The
two guys who were dancing incredibly close to the red head made their
way towards me.
I let them dance around me for five seconds waiting for them to
clear the way, but they were too drunk to realize how pissed I was
getting. I fingered for the ice from the glass and simply slipped it
underneath both of their shirts. They jumped back; aware of the iced
skin and cold arctic expression on my face. They moved away as I
smugly thanked them for the expirience. Lily was enjoying her sixth
shot and winced as she sucked on the lemon.
"Why are you in such a pissy mood?" Lance asked leaning back. I
sighed and dropped next to him. His arm came around my shoulder. He
squeezed it and let go. That's what I needed, someone to assure me
that everything is going to be okay withot uttering a single word. He
kissed my cheek and smiled.
"No matter how much of a retard you are I still love you. And you
know I'm always going to be there like the annoying big brother you
never had" he said kissing my forehead. I sighed and pushed Lance away
playfully.
"Even though you're a dick face and a asshole and okay maybe just a
tad bit annoying-"
"Let's get to the point" he said.
"You're the best!" I smiled and watched as Lily stood up.
"You guys are going to make me cry! Lily you look pale, you need
some of this bloody Mary" Megan came in a guy slung around her waist.
I noticed Lily's face drenched of all colors.
"Yeah Lily what's wrong with you?" Lance asked patting her shoulder.
"I Think I drank too much!" she said holding her stomach. Megan
exchanged a confused look with me and I pointed out the small amber
glasses on the table. She nodded thoughtfully.
"Hey Buster I'll only take a minute" she said to the muscular blonde.
"It's Duncan" he said. Megan smacked her head and smiled.
"How could I forget? Why don't you get aqquainted with my friends.
I'll only be a minute" she said as sue lead Lily towards the bathroom.
I watched her bare back sway towards the bathroom door until they
disappeared into the fog.
"So Buster!" Lance said clapping his hand together and grinned.
"Duncan" he corrected a bit annoyed.
"Sorry Duncan. You have to excuse Lance over here. He tends not to
think when he talks" I said and Lance beamed at me. We ended up
knowing Duncan a whole lot. He shared how he had gone sky diving with
his grandmother before she died. He even admitted he was scared of
heights and was about to piss in his pants, but he did it for his
dieing grandmother. His hair would fly over his forehead every now and
then covering his deep blue eyes. He would animatedly run his hand
through it reminding me too much of Ian. I sighed as he went into
another story about his bartending career. He was amusing and great
company, and I hope Megan sticks with this one for atleast a week.
"No way you have your own recording studio?" Lance piped up as
Duncan started to talk about promoting his little sister.
"Yeah. You should definetly come over and check it out !" he
mused. Oh yeah I liked him.
"It's out in Long Island, maybe a two hour drive. My mom loves
the rural areas so they decided to move over there while I stayed here
in the city. We even have a small pond - you guys should come over for
a picnic. My mom loves visitors" he said smiling. He was just too
cute. I could make out dimples on either side of his cheeks.
"Okay so Lily sorta threw up" Megan said as she walked in with a
wet stain on her dress. Lily hid behind her with her eyes red and wore
a sorry expression.
"Megan I'm so sorry-" she started to say.
"It's fine" she turned towards Duncan. "Duncan I'm sorry to cut
our time short. How about you come over my place and we'll get to know
each other better" she said. So that's how she gets them into bed.
Lance had the same thing written all over his face.
"Tempting, but I can't" he said grinning.
"Excuse me?" Megan asked. I watched as her eyes changed colors.
She didn't take rejection well.
"Let's meet tomorrow for lunch" he said. Megan shrugged and
watched him with disbelief.
"Sorry sweetie I don't do house calls" he said brushing his lips
with hers. I heard gasps all around me, or maybe it was just me. No
one says no to Megan. Oh maybe he should stay for a month.
We all said our byes and before I knew it me and Lily were in the
back of the car while Megan sat quietly up front.
"He really did a number on her" Lily said.
"You can say that again" I whispered. "Lily. Thank you" I said.
She smiled and took in a deep breath.
"Why did you keep it a secret?" I asked. She shrugged.
"I had a feeling you didn't want anyone to know"
"I didn't want to know myself" I said to myself.
The morning came with the sun spilling through my window. It was a
beautiful day. The flowers were dancing in the zephyr. While the trees
were greener than ever. The birds were chirping and Lily was puking
out her guts in the bathroom. I cringed as I heard her gag noises. I
rubbed my eyes as I made my way towards the kitchen. The coffee was
already brewing and Megan was already up reading a magazine.
"Boy you're up early" I said sliding on to one of the stools as she
placed an large mug in front of me. I took a sip and looked up at her.
"I was free last night. Got some sleep" she shrugged.
"Oh my god!" I heard Lily's frail voice from the bathroom followed
by the gagging noise. I rolled my eyes and threw the liquid into the
sink. The door bell woke me up a little and had me running towards the
door. I hadn't realize I was only wearing a pair of red panties and a
tank until I saw the crimson face of the guy behind the red roses. I
sighed and signed the beige papers. I picked out the card from the
dozen and threw the roses into the waste basket. Megan strolled around
the wide column and leaned back to study me.
"Who is it from?" she asked. I sighed and shrugged. I tossed it
over my shoulder after carefully peeling off the sticker with the
initials. Megan caught it between her finger and uncrumpled it.
"Oh no" Lily gasped as she walked out the bathroom. I turned to
wink at her but she had already thrown herself in mid air and onto
Megan. Lily grabbed the paper from Megans fingers as Megan squirmed
under Lily.
"You could read it first" Megan said her eyes widening as Lily
blushed. She was on the floor scraping at the paper while the delivery
man and I watched them wrestle.
"Is it safe to say that I'm extremely turned on by this?" he
asked. I laughed as I closed the door. Well didn't we give him a
treat. A half naked woman recieving flowers while the other two
wrestle each other on the floor.
"I didn't know it was that serious" Megan said rubbing her
shoulder blade. Lily blushed as she straightened out her skirt.
"I guess I still have some alcohol left in me" she said
scratching her head. I bit my lip watching Megan raise her eye brows
to question but stopped as the phone rang.
"Lily it's okay. I'm going to put an end to this. You don't have to
throw yourself at Megan and wrestle her to the ground to protect my
secret" I said smiling. She let out a deep breath.
"Let's get some caffine into you" I said patting her back when the
door bell rang again. I opened the door and found myself staring at
another dozen roses. This kept going until noon. So much from getting
away from the office on the weekends. Megan had left before the third
bouqet came in. Lily was waiting in the lobby for Lance to pick her
up. I wonder if they're an item. I looked around the living room. The
waste basket was full after the tenth bouqet. The rest spread out on
the carpet and two dozen of those red roses laid just beneath my feet.
I picked out the card from the last one I had recieved.
"The best things are said with out words- I want to meet you Kim"
the card was loud and clear he wanted to meet me. I needed to
straighten things out. He shouldn't be doing this. It could cost me my
job, worse my reputation. Who wants to be known as the office slut? It
was more than just vanity it had a large issues with the word morals.
It took five tries before I could reach Jake. The first three
consisted of me dialing then hanging up. The last one was a success. I
tapped the end of my heel on the dry grass as I glanced to see my
watch. He was twenty minutes late. I circled around the tree and
watched the little kids throw the football to their dad. I wonder what
dad is doing right now? What if mom already left him? I wanted to call
him but I knew I couldn't be able to handle the sorrow in his voice. I
will call but as for now I had to clear things out with the handsome
brown haired, caramel eyes man approaching me. Oh crap this is going
to be hard!
Jake strolled up to me a sly smile on his face. He wore casual jeans
and a dark green sweater. No doubt it was cashmere.
"I'm so glad you finally decided to meet me" Jake said as he inched
closer. His scent was intoxicating almost to the poit where I just
wanted to close my eyes and sniff.
"There's a reason behind it and it's not what you think it is" I
swallowed and started to speak again.
"Jake; I'm flattered. I loveyhe roses but it can't go further. It
needs to stop and you know that!" I shook his shoulders. He just nodded.
"I don't want to be the reason your marraige breaks a part. Damn
Jake just give it up" I said frustrated at how expressionless his face
was.
"You and I both know this was bound to happen. Kim don't deny that
the feeling is mutual" he said pinning me against the tree. Here I go
sniffing him again.
"Kim I want to be with you. I can't get you out of my mind. I want
to be free of Donna and well you're the one I intend to be with." he
said and pushed his lips onto mine. It was like boiling water. His
lips were hot and heavy against mine while his hands made sure that I
wouldn't escape. Why would I want to? I let my body give in as he
pushed harder. My fingers made their way towards his hair.I wanted to
savour the strong feeling of love and of his arms lazily strapped
around my waist. I twisted his brown curls around my finger and felt
the softness of it all. This is exactly what I needed. I wanted to feel
like a woman. I couldn't resist. No not any more. I wanted him and
there's no denying that. He let me go watching me carefully. I sighed
and gave him a foolish grin.
"Jake- let's go over to my place. To know each other better." I
whispered and watched his cheeks turn pink. He gave my lips a quick
peck and pulled me into his arm. I knew Megan's line would work. Thank
you Megan I just hope you're not home.
