Leader in the Making
When I got home, I called my mom to confirm everything because I still couldn't believe it. Even though Vincent, and even Freya, wanted to talk to me earlier, I declined all of it. Because trust me, I really couldn't process everything the moment Vincent stopped talking. It felt like the information they feed to me isn't ready to digest.
"Why did you hide it from me mom?" She sighed from the other side of the line after I told her all the crazy things that Vincent told me.
[Katulad nga ng sinabi ng kaibigan mo sa school, people are hunting us—]
"Then why didn't you tell me about it on the first place mom? Edi sana hindi na po ako nag enrol dito sa Empyrean Academy." I frustratedly said. But I didn't know about that one tho, coz I couldn't imagine myself studying in a different institution. Yeah, it's really weird to think about it despite all the chaos EA have caused me, I am now truly a part of it.
[Dahil mapilit ka Chelsea.] Nang sabihin iyon ni mommy ay di ako nakasagot at napabuntong hininga na lamang. She's right.
[Besides, I already asked my sorority to protect you and your background.]
"Your what mom?" Napaupo ako sa kama nang sabihin niya yon.
[I'm a member of Beleaguer House back then, and my sorority still exists.]
Oh my gosh! Wait, so Freya is from Beleaguer House too! Is it possible that her sorority was my mom's too?
"What sorority were you in?"
[Belreign.]
"Was it supposed to be like Alpha Beta Omega or something like that?"
[Well, not all fraternities or sororities want to follow that tradition. But yeah, I'm from Belreign Alpha. It depends on the unit. You'll know all of that in Beleaguer House soon.]
"Okay? But mommy... why did you join?"
[Because it's a social organization, and besides, our family is in House Beleaguer for generations.]
"Ows? kuya Leif Angelous was in House Dauntless kaya." Napangusong sabi ko.
[How did you know about your cousin's name?]
"Vincent told me. Wait was it supposed to be a secret—"
[Well no, but, who's Vincent?]
"The guy who told me."
[So you mean, from what you've told me earlier, the one who's protecting you is a guy?]
"Yeah, and he is the one who franchised your milk tea business—"
[Well I don't care young lady! You should have introduced him properly! I have to meet that BOY soon. But before that you should distance yourself to him. Understood?]
"What?! Why?"
[coz I have to tell him about the conditions in terms of PROTECTING you without him getting INTO you.]
"Mom! Oh my gosh! What do you mean? Magkaibigan lang kami ni Vincent noh!"
[I don't trust teenage boys nowadays.]
"Why are you not cool, like dad?" Napabuntong hiningang bulong ko.
[What did you say?]
"I said, how can Belreign protect me and my identity? It's super impossible to hide who I am, because I have your maiden's name."
[Oh, honey... I know that this time will come. That's why before I married your father, I changed my surname.]
My mom is really a bad*ss woman. I aspire to be like her. Thinking about the future so advanced? Wow.
