Warnings: angst, swearing, a little bit of fluff. But mostly just angst.

"What do you guys do when you go get milkshakes?" Hayden asked.

Vic shrugged where she laid beside her. "Nothing, really. We talk, we drink our milkshakes, joke around."

"So, basically how you guys are when you're at school," Hayden said.

"Yeah, just the main difference is that there are milkshakes," Vic added. "Plus, I don't get someone telling me to watch my language whenever I swear."

The two looked over when there was a big impact on the field. A few of the boys on the lacrosse team came to play a match together. Nothing official and it was all in good faith. Liam was among them. Vic and Hayden sat on the grass at the sidelines. Hayden to support her boyfriend and Vic because she had nothing else to do.

The two grimaced. "That one's gonna hurt," Vic said.

"Definitely," Hayden agreed.

Vic turned to the girl and put her arm under her head. "Hayden, can I ask you a question?"

The wolf shrugged. "Sure."

"Are you gonna break up with Liam?"

Hayden sat up and stared at the girl. She turned to the field, but Liam wasn't paying attention to them. He was focused on the game.

Hayden turned back to Vic who was laying on the grass, waiting for an answer. "Why do you say that?" Hayden asked in a whisper.

Vic sighed and say up, set her one leg on her folded knee. "I know a dying relationship when I see one. It's the way he looks at you and the way you look at him. It's not the same look."

Hayden sighed, picked at a blade of grass. Her eyes were sad.

Vic's eyes were fixed on her, but there was no emotion in them. "Hayden, can you answer me honestly?"

She let out a weak snort. "Do I have a choice?"

Vic shook her head. "Do you love him?"

Hayden looked at the wolf on the field. His darker, long hair, his ocean blue eyes. His amazing heart, his anger issues. Everything that made Liam...Liam. "I don't know," she admitted. "I think so."

"Then you don't," Vic said. "Hayden, you need to tell him about this. If this isn't going anywhere, you need to stop it before either of you get hurt. I don't want to see you get hurt."

Hayden turned back to her, tears in her eyes. "What if I don't want to? What if I just want to hold him for a little longer?"

Vic sighed. "Hayden, do you know why a painless death is called merciful?" When the wolf shook her head, she continued. "Because dying from pain is torture. We've both had our fair share of torture. I don't want either of you to look back on this with bitter memories on a bad ending. I want you to remember it with smiles on your faces."

"You care about him a lot, don't you?" she asked.

"I care about both of you," Vic corrected. "Which is why I'm talking to you about this now."

Hayden took a breath. She closed her eyes. "I can't stay in Beacon Hills," she confessed. "It's... it's too much, Vic. I already died, I got turned into a werewolf...I almost lost my sister to the Hunt. I can't stay here."

Vic placed a hand on her shoulder. "You don't have to stay. You and your sister can leave. I can ask my dad to get her a job in San Francisco."

Hayden looked over at her. "You'd do that?"
