Warnings: injuries, blood, heavy angst, bombs

She didn't sleep much the next two days.

The ambulance driver had woken up and was expected to make a full recovery in a few months. The woman who had been in the ambulance had suffered a heart attack but had made it as well. Isaac was in the hospital for his electrical burns. He hadn't been healing.

Stiles was still missing.

The scent of pancakes almost pulled her from her bed. She got dressed in jeans a t-shirt and her leather jacket. Simple but it worked. She stuffed her supplies in her backpack. She grabbed her sketchbook from her desk.

She looked at the drawing for a moment. It was a sketch of the Oni that had come into her room. The only colour was its eyes. Everything else was black and white.

She closed it and stuffed that in too. She zipped up her bag, hopefully ready for the day. Though she probably wasn't.

She dropped her bag by the door and walked into the kitchen. Her dad stood at the stove, a pancake in the frying pan and a stack of them next to him. He looked up and his eyes softened as he looked at her.

"Hey, kiddo," he greeted. He placed the spatula next to the pancakes. He walked over and gave her a hug. "Happy birthday. You feel any older?" He pulled away and moved back to the stove. He picked up the plate of three pancakes and handed them to her.

She smiled at him. "Still feel twenty two when I'm fourteen." She paused for a second. "Fifteen now, I guess."

"Well, even with everything that's happened lately, I still hope you have a good day," he told her.

She took a fork and knife from beside him. "Thanks, Dad." She took the plate to the table to find the maple syrup and butter already on the table. And it was the good maple syrup as well. She smiled as she sat down. The smile faded as she observed the place across from her.

I hate to be that person....

Still nothing, the wind responded. If he does show up, we'll let you know.

Her dad sat next to her, two pancakes on his own plate.

"So, you remember the MRI scans?" Noah asked her as he spread the butter on his food.

Vic nodded. She brought up a forkful of pancakes to her mouth. She started chewing as he spoke.

"I found a guy in LA that might be able to look at it," he continued. "I'm going there on Friday."

"Can I come too?" she asked innocently.

"What about school?" he asked.

"We both know this is more important then school," she stated easily.

He narrowed his eyes at her. "You're not gonna take no for an answer are you?"

"Nope," she said.

The man sighed and shook his head. "Well, I have something for you." He opened the pocket on his shirt and pulled out a small gift the size of a credit card wrapped in light blue wrapping paper.

Vic licked her fingers clean before she took it. She opened the packaging to find a gift card to her favourite shop downtown. It sold art supplies, old books and there was a small cafe in the back that you needed a password to get into.

She looked at her dad with admiration in her eyes. "I know how much you love that store," he explained. "And I noticed your sketchbook is almost full so I figured you might want a new one."
