Shortly after the loss of his mother, G.I. Elvis received his assignment to the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 32nd Armor, 3rd Armored Division in West Germany. Fortunately, destiny smiled upon the two lovebirds, as Brandi got permission to join Elvis abroad in Germany for a couple of months to provide him with some 'comfort' after the passing of his mother.

Accompanied by Vernon, Dodger, and Lamar Fike (who, interestingly, was considered unfit for military service due to his weight), they all journeyed to Friedberg, Germany, awaiting Elvis's arrival. Elvis embarked on the RSS Randall on September 22nd, just one day after Brandi celebrated her 18th birthday.

En route, Elvis formed a close bond with another G.I. named Charlie Hodge, and together, they took charge of organizing the ship's talent show.

That arrangement didn't last too long; fortunately for him, they could afford off-base living. Elvis soon relocated all his belongings to the Ritters Park Hotel, a place Brandi had rented for them. Not long after that, all the guys followed suit. First Red, then Sonny, and eventually the newcomer, Joe.

While Elvis and Brandi enjoyed spending quality time together, exploring the quaint town and indulging in shopping excursions, much of November and December saw Elvis engaged in military maneuvers at Grafenwöhr. Many mornings began very early, and he only returned home when darkness fell.

Nonetheless, he did what was asked of him like the dutiful soldier he was and eventually got promoted to Private First Class for his endeavors in field exercises. It was also during this time that Elvis's prescription drug use began. He started taking pills to fall asleep and pills to wake up again.
