"Joey!" the sound of Demi's voice filled his ears.

Demi entered into the bedroom and found Joe sprawled across the bed. A long sigh escaped her mouth as she sat on the edge of the bed, facing her boyfriend.

"Are you ready for the beach?" she asked softly and he nodded, standing up and revealing his topless torso.

Demi smiled and led the way out of their shared room and downstairs. Jayden and Isaac were waiting for them excitedly at the bottom of the stairs and Demi couldn't help but smile at her boys. Without a word being spoken, they hoped into the car and Demi drove them to the beach. She couldn't help but take nervous glances at Joe as she worried about the state Joe was in. She was really beginning to worry about what would happen if Maya  didn't make it. It was incomprehensible to even imagine what she would feel but she knew Joe would take it harder.

"We're here," she called out to the boys in the back seats and grins filled their faces.

As the stepped out of the car, the sun gleamed onto them as the ocean sparkled a brilliant blue. Demi sighed in relaxation at the cool sea breeze and grabbed the necessities from the trunk before leading the family onto the beach. Joe lagged behind miserably and dragged his feet in the sand. The boys charged towards the ocean and Joe and Demi set up in silence. As Joe collapsed on the beach, Demi couldn't take it anymore.

"Joe," she tried to grab his attention but there was no avail, "Joe."

His eyes reached hers and they were dark with the emotion of sorrow, Demi could almost feel her heart shatter.

"Please let me in," she begged in a whisper.

"There's nothing wrong with me," he lied.

"Really Joe? You're going to play that game?" she replied and he shook his head.

"You won't understand," he breathed quietly but not quiet enough for Demi to mishear him.

"You do realise that I am her mother, I'm feeling exactly how you are but I'm trying to stay positive for the boys," Demi watched as Joe's brown orbs flew to the ocean were the two boys were splashing around in the water, "Now please Joe, just talk to me, I don't want you to slip back into your old ways again."

"I'm fine, I promise," he demanded.

"Mommy!" Jayden called out as he ran clumsily across the sand, tripping over a couple of times along the way, "I've got salt water in my eye. It stings!"

"Ah, come here," she patted her lap and he seated on her knee.

As Jayden rubbed his eye continuously, Isaac began to built a sandcastle and Joe watched Demi with Jayden. He couldn't help but let his thoughts be absorbed with the worry of his only daughter. He felt so vulnerable and helpless, as if God had chosen the wrong path for him and his family. A little girl arrived on the beach, dressed in a floral pink swimming costume. Her Dad took her hand and stopped to apply sunscreen.

"Daddy it's cold," she complained, her words being dragged for emphasis and her father chuckled softly.

"But it'll protect your skin, I don't want my little girl being hurt, do I now," he told her, "I love you Sara."

"I love you too Daddy," they both headed towards the water.

Demi noticed the look on Joe's face as he watched the scene between the girl and her father. She noticed how Joe's expression fell with each word that was exchanged between the two.

"Joe," Demi grabbed his attention immediately this time.

He didn't say anything, her just looked at her with tear filled eyes.

"Let me in," and the tears began to flow freely as Joe bled the liquid of his soul.
