Lucy gasped for air as her eyes flew open and light pouring in from the window blinded her. She winced and raised her hand to block out the intense sunbeams and started sitting up, but she was promptly reminded of her broken ribs and had to lay back down.

"Lucy?" A groggy, raspy voice came from beside her and she winced as she looked to her right and saw Steve sitting in the chair beside her bed again. "How are you feeling?" he asked with wide, expectant eyes and Lucy paused to think about her answer.

"Uh, I'm okay I think." she said feeling dazed as she fought to clear away the fog of sleep that clouded her thoughts. She looked around the room, finally adjusting to the bright light, and sighed heavily. "I'm still in the hospital?" She asked Steve, trying to mask her annoyance.

"I'm afraid so." He nodded, "You passed out yesterday and had a series of seizures throughout the night." he explained and Lucy's eyes widened.

"Seizures?" She clarified and Steve nodded.

"Have you ever suffered from seizures in the past?" he asked and Lucy shook her head in bewilderment.

"No, never." She admitted and Steve sighed, rubbing a hand over his jaw as he seemed more worried again. "What's causing them? Do the doctors know?" She asked.

"Not exactly," He tipped his head, "After running some more tests during the night, and calling in a specialist, the doctors found pockets of radiation being stored in your body. They think that during the attack, you were exposed to a variety of radiation, and for some reason your body is adapting to contain it rather than expel it." He explained as best he could.

"Why?" She asked, feeling overwhelmed.

"We don't know." Steve shrugged, "I'll call for Dr. Banner to come back so he can better explain things to you." He said and abruptly stood up.

"Wait!" She called out for him and Steve turned back to face her, "Where's Cal?" She asked.

"With Mrs. Barton in the waiting room. They really did raid the supply closet for spare sheets and make a blanket fort." Steve chuckled and Lucy sighed in relief. "Agent Barton got called in, but his wife decided to keep the kids home from school today and let them play together. They're just down the hall."

"I don't know how to ever thank you all." Lucy said and Steve shook his head.

"There's no need. We're happy to help." He assured her and ducked out of the room to go and fetch Bruce.

Lucy gently massaged the sore spot on her midsection, feeling over each rib and wincing as she felt a shift somewhere deep inside. She paused and waited for a moment as the pain dissipated, then continued to feel across her ribs, taking note that what she had earlier assumed was pain from a broken rib, must have been something else, because all of her ribs were perfectly intact.

There was a knock on the door then a man walked in, with Steve following just behind.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Banner, I was asked to consult on your case. He said with a kind smile as he glance back and forth from his chart to Lucy's face.

"It's nice to meet you." Lucy smiled nervously.

"I wanted to ask if you have a history of epilepsy?" He pulled out a pan and tucked the cap in his pocket.

"No, I don't. I have no history of seizures at all." She clarified.

"Right, okay." Bruce nodded and jotted down a few notes. "In that case I'm afraid that I'm afraid that there's not much I can tell you. Your body is certainly going through some changes, all of which can occur naturally in a young woman like yourself, but in this case there's no cause for the change." Bruce rambled, and Lucy looked incredibly lost, "Uh, sorry let me try that again." Bruce apologized and set down his chart so he could use his hands as he spoke.
