There were very few instances that Loki visited Midgard. He found the realm incredibly dull and the people— oh the people— all so ignorant and unaware of the real world. Midgardian technology never interested him, he thought it primitive. The food was mediocre at best, he thought. There was really nothing special about the realm.

He only came back (after 2 centuries) because his mother told him too.  Frigga told him that it was something important. She had only told him the broad location and that was it.

Loki was dropped off in England via Bifrost and immediately gathered the date.

October 31st, 1878

The air smelt of smoke and mud and he did not appreciate it one bit. Apparently, he was dropped off into one of the more less fortunate areas, almost in poverty. He observed the people, they all looked dreadful.

What sort of fates were they being led to?

Why all the misfortune?

Loki stood stiffly, before walking into a hidden alley and teleported into the heart of the country, where the economy was highest.

London.

The roads were still muddy and narrow but the ambience of the city was much more cheerful and ambitious than the one he landed in. Most of the people who walked the streets worked hard in their field, whether it be legal or not.

Loki couldn't blame them, they needed the money to live.

And you can't really fault someone who wanted to live.

Frigga had mentioned his mission was somewhere in London, he just didn't know where exactly. It could take him days, maybe weeks at most to search for the problem.

So, he went and entered an apartment building that bore his symbol. The doorknob glowed when he twisted it to open the door.

Of course, it was tailored to his liking: dark wood with heavy accents of black, green and gold. Every thing was classic and sleek in his temporary home. Midgardian books even littered the walls. He must try and read the newly published later, he thought.

But for now, he had to explore and search the city. Feel for magical anomalies, search for Asgardians, look for alien artifacts, whatever.

After he settled down into his apartment, he went out of the door, locking it with magic so no one but the people he permits to enter can come in.  It was almost nightfall when he arrived in London, and after an hour of lounging about and observing his temporary quarters, the sun had sunk into the horizon. The moon was now saying her greetings.

It was still fairly early, restaurants and theatres still booming and littered with people of all classes. The pubs were now slowly gaining customers and the street lights were now brightly lit.

Loki walked down the street with curious and tedious eyes, observing everybody who passed him meticulously, from their behaviour and mannerism to their sort of clothing and shoes.

Every person who passed him was incredibly normal and mundane. No one looked stressed or suspicious when they walked passed him. No one did a double take or drew in a harsh breath from the magic he radiated.

It sort of frustrated him to a point, but also gave him this sense of superiority. Where he was the only one with magic, he was the one with divine knowledge, he was stronger than these people, he had a higher purpose than to work and to pay debts.

It made him smile deviously.

He wandered around the city until the noises were no more. Where the only thing you can hear were stray cats meowing or the occasional footstep of another person coming home late.

The streets were empty.

Loki saw no one.

But he felt there was someone.

Someone lurking in the shadows, someone watching him. He just didn't know where.

“I sure hope you missed me.”

Loki turned around swiftly, already a bright and shining dagger in his hand pointing at your throat.

“That's no way to treat old friends, Loki.” you said teasingly.

Loki put down his dagger. He knew the speaker's face. Someone all too familiar, someone who plagued his dreams.

“It has been 200 years— how?” Loki asked.

You breathed in heavily and opened your mouth to show him your teeth.

Fangs. There were fangs.

Loki was sure Midgardians didn't bear sharp fangs that could puncture flesh easily.

“Some may say it's a curse, but I fairly like being what I am,” you shrugged. “Walk with me, Loki. I'll tell you everything.” You inserted a hand in between the crook of his elbow.

“You're probably incredibly confused about me being an immortal vampire. I was turned shortly after your departure, you see. My family and I were invited in Transylvania— I'm sure you're familiar with my rank— to Count Dracula's estate because he said in the invitation that he wanted to be acquainted with wealthy English merchants,

“A plethora of people— religious folk— warned us from visiting his estate because there were rumors that the people he took in did not come back. Well, some of them did, just not in the state you'd expect. My parents did not listen to the people's advise, so we travelled there the following week,

“Everything was normal at first, the Count was a very charming fellow. Very nice and hospitable, he never seemed to be a threat. But we were wrong. Gradually after that, my parents looked more and more tired and hollow-cheeked, they moved slower and more sluggish. They lost their sense of time. But I was perfectly fine,

“Soon after that, my parents suddenly disappeared, but the Count told me that he merely sent them to a hospital just outside the forest because they were growing 'sicker'. I should've ran then and there, but I didn't. The Count continued to house and feed me with nonchalance, that is, until I saw myself become more and more pale. At this time, my eyes were slowly becoming sensitive to the light, I did not have an appetite for food anymore,

“I saw myself grow fangs, Dracula saw me panic. He tried to calm me down but I didn't, he tried to make romantic and sexual advances while I was in hysterics so of course I fought and fought him,

“When I wouldn't back down, he began to shout how ungrateful I was. That I was so lucky to be chosen as his bride. I called him mad. And a monster,

“I managed to hit him with a candelabra before he could get another word in.”

“Good girl.” Loki mumbled beneath his breath.

“And while he was passed out, I searched the house for a wooden stake to end him. I did. And I struck him in the heart. I ran out late in the night after that.”

It sort of concerned Loki that you told the story in such a nonchalant and light tone. Surely a circumstance like that would be traumatizing for a young woman. You were barely twenty-one when that happened and now you're 222. It of course left a mark, but it doesn't bother you as much anymore.

“I should have stayed longer.” said Loki, regret in his tone.

“If you did, I wouldn't be turned. I wouldn't be able to see you today. Fate is weird like that.”

“It sure is.”

You looked at him like you once did all those years ago. An obvious sheen of mirth was present in your eye and even though you weren't exactly smiling, your lips were always slightly turned up every time you met his bright green eyes.

“What brings you here, anyway?” you asked him.

“Frigga sent me here. It pains me to say that for once, I have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing.”

“Frigga? I'm sure I've seen that name before...” you trailed off before reaching in one of your pockets to retrieve a letter you received yesterday night.

You unfolded it and showed it to Loki.

“That's her handwriting.” Loki mentioned.

“She knows me then?”

“I'm afraid so. Surely she wouldn't send me back here just to inform me that you're technically immortal now.” Loki said with his eyebrows creased.

“Maybe she sent you here because of that bloke,” You turned and Loki followed suit. “He's been following for a few weeks now. It's sort of unnerving but he hasn't harmed me. Yet— Loki—”

Loki dragged you by the hand to follow the man who slipped into an alley to escape your and Loki's gaze.

His steps quickened in pace and soon he was running but he still clutched your hand tightly. If you were a plain mortal human, your lungs would already be wrecked, but luckily being a vampire had its perks. Instead of being dragged carelessly by him, you ran alongside him, smirking when he turned to you, a little surprised by your speed.

Loki threw a dagger at the man when the proximity between wasn't as wide. It struck the man's coat, pinning him into an old abandoned wooden shed.

“Hello there little stranger.” you taunted. You can feel his rapid pulse from a foot away. You really didn't kill or maim for food, you mostly ate raw meats and pig's blood because it's similar enough to human's. Or maybe you'd drop by a hospital and maybe steal blood donations. Not the most ethical but come on, it's for survival.

There were very rare instances where you'd actually bite a mortal, it maybe only happened once a decade, sometimes not at all. And all the people you choose as dinner were bad people, those who wronged the innocent. You loved seeing dread and fear in their eyes when you've cornered them in alley ways, your fangs fully out and your eyes turning a murderous bright red.

“Oh dearest, your fangs are showing. You'll scare him to death.” Loki teased and stuck another dagger into his coat, as close to the flesh as he could go.

“I fear it's too late for that,” you sniffed the man.

Horror.

Perfect.

You chuckled sadistically.

“So,” Loki started. “Who are we working with here?”

“Please! Please! Just let me go!” the man pleaded helplessly.

“Don't you love it when they beg?” you asked Loki.

“Certainly.”

“I want a name.” you demanded and pulled out your own blade.

“F-Foster! Pete Foster! Please Madame—”

“Ah. Ah. Ah.” you shook your blade left to right and stalked closer to him.

Loki wasn't going to lie. You taunting and threatening like this made his heart race and his pants tighten. But he wasn't going to admit that.

“Do you work for anyone? Now don't go spitting lies on me, dear. My dearest friend and colleague here knows all about them.”

“Y-Yes! I-I was paid to stalk you! Please Madame. I did this for my family! I had no other choice!”

“A family man, I see. How would your wife like it if she saw your head on your doorstep?” you asked and the man shook his head frantically. “I thought so. So why don't you give me a name? Perhaps even the plan if you know it. No harsh feelings if you don't though.” you smiled, your fangs flashing.

“I-I was tasked to follow you and report back to Mr. Wotan. I don't know his whole name. I just k-know he wore an eye patch. H-He wanted to know when you're most alone so he could have his men k-kill you.” Foster managed to mumble out, terrified.

You looked over at Loki to confirm whether or not Pete is lying. He nodded stiffly at you.

You smiled at Foster smugly and lowered your blade. He didn't move an inch out of fright. You raised your eyebrows expectantly, waiting for him to make a run for his life.

“No wonder you were only tasked to follow me. Go! Run along before I change my mind.”

Foster ran away stumbling and into another alleyway where he threw up and slept on the pavement.

“Why'd you let him go?” Loki asked.

“Killing is not really my area. Maybe once in a few decades but only when I get desperate.” you answered. Your voice no longer teasing or threatening. It was now back to it's original timbre with a nonchalant tone.

You thought Loki would shrug at your answer and his mischievous demeanor would return but no, his eyes were hard and you can clearly smell the smoke that emitted from the machines working in his head.

“What is it?” you asked and returned your hand into the crook of his elbow.

“Waton and eye patch. Waton is another name of Odin's. And he damn well wears an eye patch.”

“Perhaps that's just a coincidence.”

Loki shook his head. “No... What if— What if this the reason why mother sent me here... Because Odin was trying to dispose of you.”

“It could be plausible but—”

“No. No that is it. I have spent multiple hours walking around London and using my magic to feel for other people's magic and found and saw nothing. This has to be it.”

“But why would the Allfather want to kill me? Surely I don't pose to him as a threat by any means.”

He knew exactly why Odin would come after you and why Frigga would have him find you sooner than later.

Sentiment.

Loki was never a sentimental person. He would often sweep meaningful things under the rug and give them no importance or notice other than a quick acknowledgement. He would rarely be attached to objects and even more rare to people.

“You're not a threat, but you are immortal. I can only guess that Odin wants no Midgardian have an unnaturally long life expectancy,” Loki explained. “Now come on, I can see the sun peeking above the horizon. You need the shade.”

You nodded and guided Loki over to your home. It wasn't a far walk, just a complicated one. Your home of course had to be hidden given your condition which meant that you had to be particularly crafty in picking the right places to reside in. You only stayed at a certain place for no more than a decade, and often times you'd go overseas.

“Home, sweet home.” you said and removed your boots. You drew the thick, black curtains closed afterwards.

“I should not envy you and yet I do.”

“Why's that?”

“You practically live in a library with the amount of books you have in a single room.”

“Don't worry, dearest Loki. You can borrow any book you desire. I wouldn't expect you to take more than 5 books given they're all Midgardian authors but still, feel free to browse.” you said to him as you retreated in your chambers to remove all of your outdoor garments and settle for a silk nightgown.

“If you're staying, that is.” you continued when you went back out into the living room and found Loki staring at the bookshelf, occasionally trailing his fingers down the spines.

“Of course I am. I've already removed my coat darling, what else do you expect from me?”

“Good. I'll be up at around 5 o'clock,” you stood on your toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Friendly or not, Loki seemed to accept it wholeheartedly. “Tea is in the cupboards.” you said finally before retreating once more into your chambers to get some sleep.

For nearly 10 hours, Loki sat around drinking tea and eating biscuits while browsing different books at his expense. Some of them weren't even written in English so he had to use his Allspeak to be able to read and fully understand the text. By the time he was on his 30th book, his waistcoat was long discarded, his sleeves rolled up and the first two buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, the suspenders then hung low off his shoulders.

“Good evening, Loki.” you greeted and made yourself a cup of tea. It was roughly around 5 o'clock and the sun had just set. It's brightness still lingered but the big ball of energy had disappeared into the horizon. You peaked beyond the dark curtains to see London working about.

“How was your rest?”

“Pleasant,” you answered briefly before approaching him on the sofa. “You're going to have to clean that up yourself, you know.”

“When I am finished.” said Loki.

“And when is that might I ask?”

“When you're sat by me enjoying your evening tea.”

You looked at him cheekily, the cup and saucer warm in your hands. “Only because I want you to clean the mess you've made.” you sat down beside him, placing the saucer on the coffee table in front of you.

“I'll do it later.” Loki mumbled and made himself comfortable next to you, his focus less and less centered on the book in his hands and more towards you.

“So,” you started, “How long do you plan on staying here?” you asked.

“Is this your way of kicking me out?” he asked teasingly.

“No,” you shrugged. “I'm just assuming you have a magical place of your own somewhere around the city that needs tending to. Besides, if you are staying, I'm going to have to stock up on actual people food.”

“There is no need to stock up for me, darling. And yes, I do have a flat in the city but that is taken care of,” Loki paused and looked at your form. “Which is actually a lot safer than where you're living now.”

“Are you asking me to live there instead?”

“Only temporarily, perhaps until Odin backs off,” You looked unsure so Loki set down his book and turned all of his attention to you. “You don't have to worry about being followed or hunted by some lowly church folk. The door is reinforced with magic and if someone does try to get in they'll only see a dirty, abandoned living room. You have nothing to fear when you're with me.”

You smiled and hummed pleasantly. “You said that last time.”

“I did, didn't I.”

“And I didn't.”

“Didn't what?” he asked.

“Didn't fear anything when you were with me. It was only when you left when I began second guessing things again,” you paused. “I will live with you.”

“You're certain?” Loki's eyebrows raised in question.

“Yes.” you smiled happily.

Perhaps it was the utter shock of happiness that led Loki to do what he did but he did not care for the reason. It felt like an instinct to do so.

One moment he was merely looking at you, the next his lips were locked onto yours. It shocked you, but the fact that you didn't push him away shocked Loki more.

“I apologize.” Loki coughed when you parted. The both of you were wide-eyed and blushing when the initial surprise subsided.

You pecked his lips and drew back. “No need, dearest.”

Loki gave you a small smile and held your hand.

“Perhaps this was another reason mother sent me down here.”

“She couldn't possibly known.”

“She has foresight, darling. I'm fairly sure she saw this,” Loki paused and looked up at the sky, as if Frigga was looking down at him at the very moment. “She wants me to be happy. She always wants me to be happy.”

You sighed happily at Loki's blissful tone and leaned into him. “I wish I could meet her.”

“I will make sure you do.”

“What happens now?” you asked.

“You come live with me. I protect you. And when all of this blows over and Odin gets off our backs, we'll live happily,” Loki said to you. “Hopefully together.” he added.

“I'd like that. Yes, I'd like that very much.”

“Even the ‘together’ part?” Loki asked jokingly.

You chuckled. “Yes. Even the 'together' part.” you rolled your eyes in the end and let the man you cherished hold you in his arms and kiss your head endearingly.

Somewhere, up in the clouds beyond the galaxies of Earth, Frigga stands in front of her magical pond that reflects everything and anything you want to see in the Nine.

She smirks triumphantly.

“Take that, husband.”
