It was a normal day at the Shinsengumi Compounds, Okita strolling through the hallways–finding his way to his favorite person in the whole Shinsengumi–(Y/N).
(F/N) (L/N) was a woman with a hidden past, she showed up one day in Kondo's Dojo back when they were in Bushu, full of bruises and blood, asking for a little shelter and of course, the kind hearted Kondo let her in.
Ever since then, she had been staying with the shinsengumi–mainly because of her extraordinary skills as a samurai and her inexplicable knowledge in medicine, which proved to be useful in their field of work.
Okita had been watching her ever since he was a child. Peering at her with his cute but piercing red orbs, he watched her with an intense gaze. And it only took them to get to Edo–A few years more in the Shinsengumi for Okita to find out that he was in love with her.
It was basically alien to him. But he knew what his heart felt more than anyone. And now, he was being pulled by Yamazaki into an interrogation room upon Hijikata's orders.
"Tell Hijibaka-san that I'm currently occupied with (Y/N)-nee-san and can't be bothered." Okita spoke with his monotone voice, as he broke away from Yamazaki's grip.
But by the time he did, they were standing in front of the interrogation room.
Having no other choice, Okita sighs as he enters the door and sees a familiar face sitting at the table with hands cuffed to the table. "Oh?Boss—What are you doing here?"
—
Gintoki still refused to speak and was dragging out conversations in order to prove himself innocent–As he pleaded.
"Yamazaki–Get (Y/N)-nee-san here," Okita orders when he sees Hijikata throw a chair at Gintoki as the two were engaged in a fight–usually more verbal, but due to the pent up frustration, it had turned physical.
"Sougo?I brought the first aid kit," A tuft of (H/L) (H/C) hair comes into view as (Y/N) poked her head in the interrogation room.
Hijikata and Gintoki's brawl ends in a halt as they composed theirselves when someone had entered. "Oh, (Y/N)-nee-san, patch up Boss–Kondo-san will scold us when he finds out he's injured." Okita nodded with sheer nonchalance as he pointed to the silver wavy haired samurai who had a bloody head.
"Eh?...No way—You're!" (Y/N) points a trembling finger at Gintoki, as the corner of her lips twitched and Gintoki did the same.
"(Y/N), you know this permhead?" Hijikata crossed his arms, lighting his cigarette up while Okita had the same look of curiousity as they watch (Y/N) hesitate before she huffed and slammed the first aid kit unto the table.
"Ahh!What terrible luck I have! To run into a crazy chick right after these tax robbers," Gintoki clicks his tongue as he leaned back on the chair and directed his eyes at the ceiling.
"I could say the same for the sorry sight in front of me, Forgive me Sougo, Toushi–But I absolutely refuse to patch up his wound, preferably I would like it if he bleeds out and die," She comments as she crossed her arms and huffed.
"Just what the hell is going on between you two!?" Hijikata yells as he stomped his feet into the ground. Just then, Yamazaki who had been keeping quiet spoke up. "C-Could it be?...It's just a harmless thought but–Boss, you and (Y/N)-san....couldn't have been former lovers, right?"Yamazaki sweat dropped as he pointed at the two.
"HAH!As if I'd fall in love with such an ugly samurai!" (Y/N) huffed turning her back to Gintoki. "Hah! You say that but you were head over heels for me back then!" Gintoki snarls, pointing an accusatory finger at (Y/N).
"Might I remind that it was you who confessed to me, first?! I only agreed because I felt pity!" (Y/N) shot back.
"Wait—How do you two know each other?" Okita asks as (Y/N) glared at Gintoki one more time before she opened the kit and threw the bandages at him. "Apply that to yourself! Lying bastard," She grits her teeth as she made her way out.
"Oh? So someone was stupid enough to date you," Hijikata snickered amusedly as Gintoki scoffed at his words.
"How'd you find her? And why the hell is she here?" Gintoki asks while hiding his face away from them. But they could tell the silght tone of worry and relief in his voice.
"(Y/N)-nee-san showed up at Kondo-san's dojo 20 years ago, injured—We took her in and she's been with us ever since then. Now, Boss– How'd you know (Y/N)-nee-san?" Okita asks slamming his hands on the table, his voice laced with pure seriousness as his eyes meet Gintoki's red dead ones.
–
It was now night, The Shinsengumi Quarters was quiet as silence enveloped the place, everyone had fallen to slumber.
(Y/N) was an exception—She sat on the overhang outside her room, and gazed up at the waning moon with a lost look in her eyes. Slowly, she feels tears welling up at the memories that flooded her mind from the past.
"It's late, (Y/N)-nee-san, why are you still up?" Okita asks as he slumps down by her side.
"You know nee-san—Out of everyone in the shinsengumi, you're the one I hate the least," He says. And then, he hears her giggle softly as she wiped her tears away.
"I could say the same for you, Sougo—You should be sleeping by now, you won't get taller if you don't," She warns with a flick to his forehead.
"Am I still a boy in your eyes, nee-san?" He asks gripping her wrist as he stared at her, eye to eye—with a serious gaze.
"Sougo....Look at the moon," She breathes out, tearing away from his eyes. "On a moonlit night, the words hidden deep in your heart will flow out like a river, so be careful,"
"It wouldn't do you any good, Sougo." She sucked on her teeth as she looked down, clenching her fists. "What won't?" He questions casually as he stared at her.
She was speaking as if she knew what Okita was about to say. Seeing her peer down at the ground, with something unexplainable in her eyes.
"Sougo—I...."She trailed off, turning to the side. "I was in the Joui War, I met Gintoki at temple school—same as Kotaro, Shinsuke and Gintoki, I took up the sword and tried to rescue our sensei from the Bafuku." She confessed, her head tipped down. "War is terrible, it's the most horrible thing in this world." She murmurs as Okita looks at her softly.
"Those nights when I wondered if I would ever live a happy life after it...were slowly killing me—Gintoki helped me through all of them, he gave me the courage to stand on the battlefield and survive."
Okita leaned his head down, placing his hand on top of hers. He watched her tip her head lower, noticing the bits of droplets that soiled the ground.
"One time—I sacrificed myself for him, one damn time. And he pushed me away." She grits her teeth, "He made me retreat from the war—He....promised to protect me forever, that lying bastard."
"For all the things I've done...I don't deserve any love. I don't deserve anyone—So, Sougo before you say anything–Don't!"
She felt herself being embraced and found Okita's strong arms wrapped around her, his chin laid on her shoulder as he pressed her against his warm body.
"Don't bring yourself that down!" He yells at her softly, now feeling her hands clutch his yukata. "You're the most worthy person of any love. And I—Will make sure you get the love you deserve—So let me, nee-san!"He pleaded.
"Let me love you, I....I won't leave you like he did. I'll stay by your side, I'll protect you—No matter what happens, just give me one chance, and I will prove myself to you!" Okita breaks away from the hug and he softly kisses her lips. Feeling her soft lips on his. Okita smiles a little as he pulls away and leans his forehead on hers. Searching her (E/C) orbs for any hint of rejection and when he found none, he sighed in relief.
"Would you like to sleep now?" He calls out to her as he moved away and stood up, holding his hand out to her. She takes it as she stood up and looked down.
"I'll get going then..."He murmurs as he turned his back on her, but just before he could take a step forward. He felt her tugging his sleeve.
"Sougo....Will you accompany me until I fall asleep?"
He stared at her for a while before he sighed and softly smiles, wrapping an arm to her shoulder he nodded.
"I'll stay by your side forever, nee-san~"
