It had been weeks since Miley's last encounter with Sam Uley, and she was okay with that. Well..... Not fully. For some reason she had a weird feeling of emptiness with the fact Sam hadn't been around or message her. And don't say 'why don't you try messaging him and talking to him.' Believe it or not Miley actually did text him a few times but got no response and decided it wasn't worth her time. Yet here she was at the diner, thinking of how stupid it was to message a supposed cult leader.
She couldn't help but wonder if that was why he hasn't responded, Because he was to busy with leading his cult and chopping up bodies that he wasn't able to talk to her. Or maybe he was too busy fighting rival gang members over in Port Angela's. But then there was the obvious reason why he wasn't answering her..... he simply didn't like her and just found her to be annoying.
He did have to carry Miley to her room when she had fell asleep in his truck and he probably thought she was just a heavy nuisance the whole time. At least that's what she believed.
The more these thoughts raced through her head the more depressed she began to feel.
The past few weeks had been nothing but sad and lonely. Bella being in a weird form of depression, meaning she doesn't want to do anything or talk about anything. Although Miley really wasn't talking to her anyway since Bella snapped at her so right now Miley was fine not being around her, sister, even though she was beginning to worry.
Their dad began working late due to all the dead or missing people that have been showing up in the woods. Jacob had been fixing up the rabbit but he still made time to message Miley here and there to reassure her everything was going to be okay. He told her that Embry had fallen ill with mono recently too and hadn't been messaging him back for the last two days. Jacob was starting to worry that Sam and his buddies got to him and made him join them.
Miley had reassured Jake that Embry wouldn't do that. Embry's hatred for Sam and his group by calling Jared and Paul hall monitors on steroids. Jacob just said how much he hoped for Miley to be right and she also hoped she was, Miley knew how devastated he would be losing one of his best friends since they were kids. Miley didn't want Jacob to face the same fate as Bella did with Edward when she lost him. Yes he still has Quil and Miley but she didn't know if that would be enough, because clearly for Bella, Miley wasn't what she wanted or needed.
Miley was wipeing down her last table and pondering when the ding above the door went off signaling there was a new customer. Miley ignored it and watched as Margret a lady in her 50's walked over to the table whoever it was sat at. Miley grabbed the dirty dishes from a different table and turned around to head to the kitchen to go put them in the sink when she froze. Sitting there in all his glory was Sam Uley and by the looks of it his eyes were watching her as he ordered from Margret.
Miley almost dropped the tub of dishes on the floor but instead of react to him being there she kept a straight stoic face and walked into the kitchen placing the dishes in the sink. Miley clocked out and changed out of her uniform into some black jeans and her blue T-shirt with her converse on.
Miley ignored his presence as she walked out of the door, head held high as she walked out to wait for Jacob who was picking her up that day. He was gonna work on the rabbit as Miley "helped" by handing him tools to use, they probably won't be the right tools, but really all they wanted was the others company. Miley saw Jacob coming down the road in his dads truck when the door on the diner dinged. She glanced back and saw Sam coming toward her with a serious look and she quickly put her eyes back on Jacob pulling into the parking lot.
Miley knew she had been craving to see and talk to Sam, but she was not gonna do that after he had blatantly ignored and avoided her. So Miley began walking to Jacobs truck and felt a scalding hand grab her shoulder and stop her. She looked up from the ground to see Jacob looking back and forth between her and Sam with a questioning gaze. He didn't understand what was going on with Sam wanting Miley in his cult.
Jacob thought he only did it with kids at his school and they were boys who's families last names were very known throughout the tribe as the original families of there reservation or something.
Miley squeezed her eyes shut wanting it to be a dream but when she opened them she saw Jacob slowly getting out of the truck in case a fight broke out or something. Miley let out a quiet sigh and turned around facing Sam who's eye brows were furrowed as he looked at Miley then to Jacob who had began walking over. "Miley I was just wondering if I could talk to you?" He asked as he seemed to glare at Jacob making him stop walking and wait for Sam to attack him or Miley.
Miley let out a scoff and grabbed his wrist removing his hand from her shoulder. That caught his attention and immediately made him look at her funny almost like he was upset. She couldn't help but wonder why he should be upset? She was the one who got ignored while he hung out with his friends.
Miley quirked an eye brow and shook her head in disbelief that he thought he could just waltz in here like nothing had happened. Too be honest she didn't know why him ignoring her had hurt this bad when she barely knew him, all she did know was it made her heart feel like it was constricting for some reason. Miley didn't want to be put in a position like that, She didn't want what seemed to have happened to Bella to happen to her.
She was completely fine being left alone, she didn't need a man to be happy. And she sure as hell didn't need a man to make her dependent on him.
"You actually thought that after almost a month of not talking to me you could just show up to my job and act like you didn't completely ignore me?" Miley asked a bit incredulously. "I wish I could explain to you why but you just have to trust me on this okay?" His voice cracked a bit hinting that he was getting upset but Miley just didn't care in that moment. "That's the thing, I dont't trust you" Miley says with venom as she walks away towards Jacob who is staring at Sam behind her.
Miley just kept walking not looking back as she hopped into the passenger side of Billy Blacks truck. When she did finally look up she could see Jacob walking to the truck with a freaked out expression.
Then she began to look at Sam who was literally vibrating in place he was shaking that bad and his teeth seemed to be pulled back in some weird scowl that made him look closer to an animal growling.
Jacob quickly got into the truck and began driving down the road, Miley looked in the side mirror to see Sam running into the woods that seemed to be on her side of the truck, it made her feel uneasy.
She also felt like a total bitch for being so snobby towards him, but she had felt hurt by his actions of ghosting her. Not because she wanted him to be hurting but for him to see a glimpse of the sadness she had felt with the same sting of rejection.
Miley did have some trust for Sam because of him finding Bella and taking Miley to Billy's. But things just seemed to not be adding up with him and Miley couldn't put her figure on it or trust something she didn't know anything about. The whole way to Jakes house he was bombarding her with questions about what had just happened.
Miley had told him she didn't know because she didn't want Jake knowing she willfully messaged a La Push gang leader. Plus she thought it was due to her having a very small crush on Sam and she didn't want him knowing that either.
When the two got to their destination Miley jumped out of the truck and instantly felt a shiver roll up her spine, and not because of the cold but because she felt watched. It didn't help that on their walk to the garage she thought she heard a twig snap in the woods. Jacob claimed not to have heard it and just laughed at the girl saying she was just jumpy but Miley couldn't shake this sense of being watched off. At least not until she stepped into the garage and went by the tool box and started handing Jake stuff as he work on the rabbits engine.
After an hour there was a knock on the entrance making Miley jump again but sigh out in relief when she saw it was just Quil but he looked upset.
Jacob kept laughing but stopped when he noticed he was the only one and that Quil looked pretty distraught as Miley stared at him in worry. "What's wrong Quil? Is everything okay?" Miley asked placing a hand on his shoulder. He had sat down on two tires stacked on each other and shook his head. "He's gone" he whispered out like he couldn't believe it and that whatever it was broke him. "Who's gone?" Jacob asked standing up and brushing his hands on his jeans. Quil put his head down and mumbled something, "what was that?" Miley asked not hearing him.
He sighed looking up at the two with tears in his eyes, "Embry.........joined the cult" he said with despair evident in his voice.
Quil hung his head again down to the ground as both Miley and Jake seemed to freeze. Embry had been taken to the dark side, that's what Sam was so busy doing. Forcing Embry to join his gang, it must have taken him forever to finally make Embry commit to the group he despised so much. Jacob wasn't saying anything he looked like he was ready to either cry or punch something at any second.
It was at that moment Miley saw his hatred for Sam Uley and his cult through his eyes and scowl. Miley felt herself ready to slap Sam so she could only imagine what Embry's best friends hatred level could be at. "He said we couldn't be friends anymore" Quil sobbed making Miley's heart break in two.
Not only did embry get all jacked up on steroids like the others but now he was ignoring Quil and Jacob like Sam did to her. Sam said trust him, but now Miley knew she could never do that. Because he just broke her best friend and Jacob was the only thing keeping her from ending up like Bella.
There was a yell from billy on the porch, no one could hear what he had said so Jake stood up and walked out. He came back in the garage seething about how 'he' was outside.
Miley thought he was talking about Embry but when Quil asked who, Jacob spit out Sam's name like it was a bitter taste in his mouth to even say it. "What does he want?" Miley asked, Jake stopped pacing immediately and looked at her. "He wants to talk to you, probably try and force you to join too." He said beginning to pace again and looking like he could kill someone.
Miley felt the air leave her lungs as she gulped harshly before standing up shakily on her feet, and began walking out to see why Sam was there.
Miley felt a hand grab her wrist and it turned her around to see an upset Jake, "Just don't let him take you too" he said before hugging her and letting her go. Miley walked out to see Sam and Billy talking on the ramp together about something, when Billy saw Miley and told Sam.
Sam looked over and his face almost seemed more droopy and tired looking than before, Billy left him to go back inside. Miley made her way to the bottom of the ramp where he was, Sam was looking at her face as she looked at the ground like it was the most interesting thing.
"Why are you here? I thought I made myself clear." Miley said still not looking at him. "I'm sorry, I know its not enough and you don't know how bad I feel but I'm truly sorry. All I'm asking is for a new start." He apologized in a tone that sounded like begging.
"I'll tell you what, you answer one question I have and we will be good again. All you have to do is answer it truthfully." Miley said as she looked up to see a small smile on his face with a sense of hope she knew would leave once she asked what she needed to. "Anything" he replied ready to fix their issues. "What did you do to Embry" Miley asked and as soon as she said it his smile fell and he looked almost mad. "What are you talking about?" He said through clenched teeth as he glared daggers at the garage.
"Why did you make him not able to talk to Jacob or Quil anymore? He absolutely hated you and your friends and suddenly he's part of your little group. I just want to know what you did to convince him to ditch his friends." Miley said crossing her arms over her chest. Sam was shaking and possibly worse then outside the diner but he wasn't saying anything causing Miley to scoff and turn her back on him. Miley began walking away from him when she heard a ripping sound behind her, she looked back to see a huge black wolf looking at her.
Miley looked around but Sam was no where in sight, in his place was a wolf the size of a horse. Miley's brain somehow managed to function and thought of the only explanation but it had to be insane. The wolf began whining softly and laid down on the ground making him about her level. The door swung open revealing Billy who sighed, "When I said explain and fix things with her, this isn't what I meant" he then looked over at Miley. "Come inside Miley, we have plenty to discuss. And you better go change back before Jacob and blabbermouth Quil see ya." He said before wheeling himself back inside.
Miley looked at the wolf in front of her one last time before walking around it and up the ramp. When she turned around she saw him running into the woods, where she had felt watched earlier and the twig snapped.
