NOVA

I felt Celimene calling to me and confused; I accepted her call. My mind stirred and before I knew it, I was blinking back to the present. Lifting my head, I looked around at my surroundings.

We were at the waterfall, on the grass, and my fur was damp. I heard the trickling of water as it hit the lake and turned my head when a sharp tongue suddenly dragged itself along my side.

Ares was busy grooming me, his ears behind his head, eyes closed as his rogue tongue ran through my fur. I leaned toward him, nudging him with my nose. He paused, eyes darting open to stare at me. Grumbling softly, he craned his head closer so he could lick my snout. I huffed at him, shaking my head submissively.

Phoenix? I wondered.

He lowered his enormous head until he was beneath me, looking up with wide eyes. 'No Phoenix.'

Ares. I breathed. How long have we been here?

'Not long.' He licked his nose. 'It's still daytime.'

I turned, looking out at the horizon. The sun was lowering in the sky, which led me to believe it was nearing dinner. I rose to all fours and stretched out my limbs, getting used to being a wolf again. It was strange how easily it came, and I wandered around the edge of the lake.

Ares wasn't far behind me, keeping his ears alert as he looked around. The earth was soft beneath our paws, and I followed the scent of my clothes as we walked. Ares stayed beside me, occasionally brushing himself against me. I boldly nipped his ass as he passed by me and he growled, spinning his head around to bare his teeth at me.

I lazily grinned, sure my tail was wagging like mad as my mate huffed at me. I snickered, brushing past him and flicking my tail in his face. Hearing him growl, I quickened my pace and ran. Ares stayed back, allowing me the lead until we both came scraping to a stop, digging up the earth beneath our claws. I barked at him when he nudged me with his head, his snout poking my underbelly.

It was nice to be in my furs, and I felt so... contented knowing that it turned out fine. It had been a breeze, as though the near year-long break never happened. My wolf sat happily on the side-lines now, her energy and excitement burning off over the past few hours. I felt peaceful within myself. The guilt and the fear vanished from my heart.

I shifted back, stretching my human body out. I felt sore and tired, my legs body aching from the first shift. Turning toward my mate expectantly, I found him right behind me. His head was inline with mine as he stared at me with those golden orbs. I raised an eyebrow, wondering why he was in my business.

With a wolfish smirk, he suddenly coated my face and neck with wetness. I gasped, squeezing my eyes shut as the wolf slobbered all over me.

"Ares!" I scolded.

I wiped my eyes with an annoyed huff. He didn't seem to care, falling onto his haunches to stare at me. His wolf's eyes appraised me in a way I wasn't sure I deserved. His head cocked, nostrils flaring as he looked at me. With a disgruntled sneeze-snort, he shook his head at me.

I watched him cautiously, ready to shove his face away if I needed to. He yipped softly before turning around and walking away from me. Crossing my arms, I waited expectantly as he shifted. Phoenix stumbled before me, stretching his limbs as he approached.

"Hello," He smiled.

"Hmm..." I hummed.

He grinned, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me up and around his waist. Our naked bodies collided, but he held me respectfully.

"Did you enjoy your run?" He wondered.

"I think it went well," I shrugged. "I didn't see any of it."

He hesitated before chuckling softly. "I suppose you didn't. But I told you it would be fine, and I guess I was right!"

I laughed softly, running my hands through his hair. "I ache now."

"Want to swim in the lake?" He wondered.

"Naked?" I raised my eyebrows, eying the blue water.

"Nobody is around, I made sure of it."

"You did? How clever are you?" I teased.

He growled softly, leaning forward to graze his teeth along my jaw. I laughed happily as he walked, the soft sloshing of water coming from around his knees.

Phoenix kept going until my toes dipped into the lake's edge and eventually, my entire lower half was submerged. I shuddered at the change, the water cooler than I expected.

"It's cold." I frowned.

"Well, it's not going to be warm. It's March," Phoenix shrugged.

"I don't have wolf heating." I tutted.

"Stay close to me then." He grinned.

I rolled my eyes but pressed my body closer to him. The water rippled around us softly, and together, we just allowed its embrace. Phoenix walked through the depths, my head on his shoulder as I looked at the surrounding forest.

It was nice being here in Phoenix's embrace. It had been so long since we had time together when the world wasn't weighing down on our shoulders. Through endless sleepless nights and days that blurred into one, I often lost track of my present. We bickered, lost our patience, collided with our opinions, and fell asleep at ungodly hours.

Our bond stretched, our emotions scattered and nerves fried. We were stressed, tired, and underfed, and I cannot recall feeling so elated as I did right now.

Being a parent was hard work. I truly think people do not realise how emotionally tolling it was.

But not once had I thought about the twins, and it made me feel slightly guilty.

"I should check in on the twins..." I mumbled.

His voice vibrated his chest. "I already have. They are back asleep."

I pulled away to look down at him. "They are?"

"Yes, I spoke with your mother when you shifted back."

"Oh," I breathed. "What else?"

"Now, now, this is us time. The twins are fine and safe, and fast asleep." He kissed my nose.

I scowled. "I just wanted to know..."

"No mind-linking, they are fine." He smirked. "Let us enjoy this."

I hummed, resting my head back on his shoulder. He held me weightlessly, my ankles locked around his back as we floated through the water. It wouldn't be long before the sunset, the sky growing darker already.

"We should do this more often." I muttered.

He pulled away from me, forcing me to hold my head. "Really?"

I frowned, confused by his shock. "Yeah, it's nice to just be with you. Peacefully."

Phoenix grinned, kissing me passionately. I melted into him, enjoying the way his lips caressed mine and how he claimed me with his hands.

Pulling away, I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. "What was that for?"

"I'm proud of you." He stated.

"What for?"

"For going out of your comfort zone." He shrugged. "You have done so well, and to say you want to do it again is amazing."

"Thanks?" I cocked my head.

He chuckled softly, kissing me quickly. "I would love to do this with you every week."

"Good," I smiled. "It's a date."

He grinned, engulfing my mouth with his own. I couldn't help but grin into his embrace, feeling elated that we had come back together. It had felt as though we had been miles apart, but right now, being so at ease, I knew it was just a test of time. Despite our tired and stressed states, we just needed to rely on each other.

We'd get through this one step at a time if we simply communicated with each other.

"We should go home," Phoenix muttered against my mouth.

I was shivering, but bit out a soft complaint. "But why?"

"Because I would love nothing more than to take you in this very lake."

"Then why don't you?" I breathed.

"Because it would feel so wrong." He groaned, his head falling backward.

"It would?" I cocked my head, looking down at him.

I pressed my chest against him, his hands moulding my ass. Our kiss had grown needy and pregnancy fried my hormones as it is. Was it normal to feel this needy so soon? Kate said things snapped back super quick for wolves, but... This felt odd.

"Yes," Phoenix chuckled. "It would feel wrong for our first time back together to be in the lake."

"Oh," I breathed, blinking through the haze. "If you say so..."

He cursed, shaking his head. The wet strands of his hair flickered into my face and I frowned, smoothing his wildness down.

"Fuck, Nova. You make this hard."

I hesitated, licking my lips. "What... What i-if I wanted it hard?"

He cursed again. "Don't say things like that to me, baby."

I chewed my lip, my core tightening. I loved it when he called me something other than my name, and baby just did something to me.

"Please, Phoenix." I begged softly. "I want this."

"Nova..." He stammered. "I..."

"I want you, Phoenix." I whispered, digging my claws into his back.

He cursed, but crashed our lips together with need. The ache between my thighs grew, a deep begging burning in my core. His mouth moved, lips sucking and teeth nibbling down my jaw and throat. He sucked on my collarbone, taking my skin between his teeth before moving up to my mark. My breath came out in harsh pants as he kissed it delicately, before moving his whispering kisses back to my lips.

My skin prickled with awareness, my hips grinding against him as he palmed my skin. I felt his fingers move south, gracing my slit beneath the water's surface. I felt his hardness against my stomach, a desperate ache pressing into me.

Phoenix pulled his lips from mine with a harsh snap. "Here? Or the land?"

I cursed, shaking my head. "I don't care."

He groaned and lifted me slightly until his cock sprung free. The water lapped at our bodies, gentle waves that seemed to wrap around us.

"Tell me the moment it hurts or is uncomfortable." He murmured.

"I've been healed for a while. I think I will be okay." I shook my head. "Just, please, stop the ache, Phoenix."

His breath hitched, a breathy moan escaping the both of us as he gripped his length and sank into me. Only the tip went inside, my eyes watering with desperation as he slowly filled me.

"Okay?" He wondered.

"Yes," I breathed. "More."

He obliged, pushing more of his girth into me as I adjusted to his size. He lowered my ass, sinking me down onto his length instead of driving himself up. My toes curled at the familiar sensations, my body accepting his intrusion. There was a dull ache as I stretched to accommodate him, but otherwise, everything felt good. My body was ready for him, eager to sate the fire.

Phoenix cursed, his forehead falling to rest upon mine. I kissed him softly, my hands grabbing the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Okay?"

A small laugh escaped me. "Yes, please, Phoenix. Move, take me."

"Shit," He cursed, eyes fluttering closed.

My back arched into him as he slowly pulled out, the surrounding water slapping against our skin. I held onto him tightly, my body twitching with every shift of his hips into mine. He stretched me slowly, and only when my body sank completely into his did he pick up the pace. My walls accepted his entire length now, and a frantic need took over me.

I wanted this.

I wanted to come undone. I needed it. Bad.

Writhing into him, I pulled him closer, my mouth being the one to lick and nibble at his skin. His hands grabbed and pulled at my skin, moulding my ass, my breasts, my thighs. His thick fingers may leave bruising marks, but my nails dug so deep into his skin I was sure I drew blood.

We were both lost in the moment. His hips pounding into mine drew out any realisation of our surroundings. We were hungry, deprived of intimacy for so long. Nothing ever felt so right. Even when pregnant, sex did not feel so amazing as it did right now.

I yearned for him, ached for him, begged for him.

"Phoenix..." I panted, my heart erratically beating.

He growled, his hazel eyes blazing with desperation.

The pressure built inside of me, coiling so deeply in my gut I was sure it would snap and never come back to reality. The coolness of the water felt warm. Our bodies heated as we came together. He was rutting so deeply into me; it was only a matter of time before I came undone.

"Nova..." He breathed, his voice rugged and deep.

"I'm going to..."

"Yes, fuck, please." He groaned, muffling his cries of pleasure into my shoulder.

My body jolted as his words caused that last strand of reality to snap. I convulsed against him, strange strangled noises escaping my mouth as it pushed me over the edge. I spluttered his name, gripping onto his shoulders as he slowed his pace inside of me to let me ride out my climax.

"I'm going to cum, Nova." He cursed.

I moaned, enjoying the feeling of his cock as the aftershocks of my orgasm died down. He didn't have to say anymore, his thrusts becoming frantic. My walls convulsed as he grew desperate, clinging onto him as I cooed dirty words into his ear.

He groaned, hips stuttering as he slowed his pace inside of me. I felt him flood me, felt him fill me with his seed as he came undone. My eyes rolled back, feeling the bond come alive as I milked every drop. Coming to a stop, his forehead fell against mine and for a moment, we just stayed locked in each other's embrace, murmuring sweet I love you's.

Only when our breaths slowed and our hearts calmed did I raise my eyes to look in his.

"My parents are going to know we did this." I breathed when he pulled out of me.

He chuckled, walking to the edge of the lake. "You are mine. It doesn't matter and I don't care."

I laughed softly, shaking my head as he set me down on my feet. I wrung my hair out. The ends of it had become wet in our moment of passion. I couldn't help but glance down at Phoenix's body, eagerly taking in the sight of his still hard member.

"It'll go down... Eventually." He covered himself with a chuckle. "It's just been a while. He's a little excited."

I rolled my eyes, leaning forward to kiss him gently. "I love you."

"I love you more." He grinned, kissing me back.
