liked by you

did you expect to do well on the partner project?

of course. of course you did.

because after all, it was you we're talking about.

but what you didn't expect was for everything to go perfectly. as in, everything. as perfect as can be.

knowing your luck, you expected that there would be definite obstacles on the day of the presentations. and thus, you had prepared yourself for any mistakes or embarrassments to happen.

(plus, you were working with kageyama of all people. and that adds on ten times more stress than necessary compared to if you had a different partner.)

but, as you and kageyama finished presenting your final project, you couldn't even stop yourself from smiling.

everything was perfect—and you knew kageyama felt it too.

speaking of kageyama... ever since that interaction in the janitor's closet, things have been more awkward than ever.

honestly. you've never experienced peak awkwardness before this.

you and kageyama? it was the pure definition of awkward. (and hurt, hatred, pain, yada, yada. all that jazz.)

but, as for everything else...it seems like nothing had really changed between the two of you, even after that whole talk.

you still insulted each other at every given moment (because let's be real, you would never actually admit defeat), and it was still hard being in the same room as each other.

luckily, you wouldn't need to worry about the latter now that the project was over.

you'd never have to see kageyama again.

or so you thought.

"thank you everyone."

you rested your elbows on the table as you looked up to see professor min standing in the front of the class.

"on behalf of our staff, we'd like to thank you for making such an effort on this partner project. it was a huge success for the most part, and we are all extremely impressed," he smiled. "however, it is unfortunate to say that fails were also seen. you will receive an email within the next few weeks letting you know your mark."

you could see everyone listening intently around you.

who had failed?

not you, that's for sure.

"now," professor min continued, "due to everyone's hard work, we have made arrangements for next period."

there's more?

"we offer a final concluding activity," your teacher said happily. "in which, we will allow each student to do one period of intern in their partner's class."

you froze.

"meaning, that for the next two periods of the day, each partner will have a chance to fully experience each other's majors. we hope that you will enjoy this opportunity to celebrate your successes."

as professor min finished speaking, your hand immediately shot up in the air.

"yes?" he looked towards you, a small smile on his face.

"is this mandatory?"

your professor let out a small chuckle. "yes, yes it is indeed mandatory. it won't affect grades, but it's a new experience."

professor min paused before finishing his last words. "again, it will only be interning for today. we hope that you have made new friendships, and that those new friendships will last. we wish you all the best."

everyone stood up to leave at the sound of the bell.

you groaned internally as you looked towards kageyama.

new friendships my ass.

guess hell won't be over until this day is.

"that's what a normal day's class looks like for you?" you raised your eyebrow.

"obviously."

you stared at kageyama incredulously.

"that's all you do?"

kageyama rolled his eyes. "was the hour of homework not enough for you?"

you scoffed. "i wish for only one hour of homework every week."

kageyama looked at you in confusion.

"don't look so shocked," you pursed your lips together. "it's just that i have to do over quadruple the amount of homework you do in a week—except every day."

the tall boy blinked. "you have over four hours of homework per day?"

you smiled without mirth.

"welcome to pre-med."

sitting next to kageyama was honestly enough to make you want to skip class.

but you were not the type to skip class, nor were you the type to back away from professionalism.

which is why you now sat silently next to kageyama in your classroom, trying your hardest to ignore his presence.

"y/n!" nari smiled at you.

she paused as she saw the figure sitting next to you, her face scrunching in disgust. "kageyama's here?"

you sighed as nari took the seat on your other side. "he's interning here for this period."

and indeed, he was.

tobio kageyama, not even a pre-med student, had the attention of basically all the girls in your class. (you rolled your eyes. damn him.)

but to your surprise, you subconsciously felt the smallest aching as you felt the eyes on kageyama. to which you pushed your feelings away as you told yourself time and time again...

you had no right to feel any type of jealousy—if what you were feeling could even count as 'jealousy'. (we can't be jealous of something we don't want...right?)

kageyama wasn't your boyfriend. hell, kageyama wasn't even your friend.

nari gave you an amused look, not realizing the internal argument happening within you. "you look like you're about to rage and leave. stay strong bae."

"very close to doing that, to be honest."

nari arched a brow before sighing. "you wanna switch seats?"

at her words, you immediately gave her a pleading look.

"yes please."

what would i do without nari? *cries*

giving nari a grateful look, you silently switched seats with her, making nari now sandwiched between you and kageyama.

(sandwiched between the mountain of awkwardness, that is.)

kageyama glared from around nari.

"what the fuck do you think you're doing?"

"what does it look like?" you glared back. "i'm switching seats."

"i'm supposed to be interning with you, not distracting other students," kageyama scoffed.

"oh don't worry kageyama-kun!" nari gave kageyama a fake smile. "i don't mind dealing with your bullshit!"

kageyama blinked at her, not responding.

instead, he turned back to give you an incredulous look.

"i could report this to professor min you know," kageyama pierced you with a look.

"i don't care," you snapped. "now, are you here to see what a pre-med student does, or are you here to argue with me?"

before kageyama could reply, the entire room fell silent as your professor entered.

"good afternoon class," he smiled. "today we will be spending the day in the labs, if you'll follow me."

in the labs?

your professor barely ever let your class leave the classroom.

guess today's your lucky day.

(if only kageyama didn't wasn't there).

okay, so maybe today really was a lucky day.

as soon as your class entered the lab room, you saw the exact faces you've been waiting to see all day.

your exchange friends.

"these three," your professor introduced your friends, "are korean pre-med students who are on a one year exchange here at kyoto. and they will be joining us for the labs today."

minho gave you a small wink as you smiled back.

too focused on your exchange friends, you had missed the look of death coming from kageyama as he saw minho.

"y/nnnn~"

"mhm?"

"why don't we do our labs together?"

"mmkay," you yawned. "it is the first time you're in my class so i guess i can help you," you told him with a joking nudge.

your professor had told everyone to get into pairs to work on the labs for the day, and working with minho would be a dream.

no offense to your wife (nari), but a chance to finally work with your exchange friends again? chances like these come by...never.

and from the small smile nari flashed you, you could tell that she understood.

"okay let's work together since yuna's working with seojun," minho grinned.

minho was about to help you grab the materials, when you felt a prodding on your shoulder.

"what?" you gazed up at kageyama lazily.

"what do you mean 'what'?" kageyama glared. "i'm interning here today so that means you're forced to work with me."

"mm, i don't think so," you smiled coldly. "i'm working with minho."

"i don't care about your boyfriend," he snapped. "how am i supposed to know what i have to do?"

"just work with the nari," minho put in, giving nari an apologetic look from behind you. "she already has experience in dealing with your shit—sorry, bullshit."

"of course," nari stated in a cool tone to kageyama. "i would gladly like to help morally-incompetent individuals in a new, and difficult environment. i understand not everyone is as talented nor as smart as y/n...especially not someone from a..." nari broke off, eyeing kageyama as if she was trying to keep the judgement out of her eyes, "...sports major."

kageyama looked like he wanted to say something rude, be refrained it. (probably because he knew nari as a manager).

"thanks for the offer," kageyama narrowed his eyes, not taking his glare off of you, "but i'll be working with y/n."

you scoffed. "no you won't."

kageyama gave you a cocky look. "won't you now?"

before you could even guess what he was going to say, you heard him raise his voice. "professor," he called.

... fucking bitch.

your professor showed up almost immediately.

"yes? you're the intern with y/n right?"

"yes sir," kageyama nodded. "so that means i'm working with her, right?"

"naturally," your professor smiled. "y/n, i trust that you will be able to work well with kageyama?"

you smiled through clenched teeth. "of course, sir."

"then it's settled," your professor concluded as he walked off to help other students.

"you are fucking dead," you breathed in a small tone, so that only kageyama could hear you.

"i wonder what your professor will say if he heard you say that..." kageyama raised his eyebrow.

"shut the fuck up," you glared.

sighing for what felt like the hundredth time of the day, you turned back to minho.

you gave him an apologetic smile. "sorry. you'll have to work with nari today."

minho looked slightly disappointed, but to your surprise, he stepped closer to you to whisper in your ear.

"you're buying me cereal later to make up for this," he whispered against your ear.

bro, why is it always cereal?

you sighed in defeat as minho walked towards nari, somewhat unwillingly, as if pouting.

as you turned back to kageyama, you were once again faced with his glare.

his glare that never seemed to leave you. not even for a single second.

you narrowed your eyes.

you wanted to work with me?

then don't blame me if you can't keep up.

you gave kageyama a mocking smile as you stated coldly.

"come now, intern. i'll show you how we do things around here."
