does being tired count as a personality trait?

because if it was, it'd be your only personality.

other than fangirling and simping, of course.

but still.

why were you so so tired all the damn time?

it's only been two months of university and you already felt drained.

guess it isn't always easy being the top of the class, is it?

you sighed.

"i'll have the usual," you yawned.

"strawberry milk?" the boy who always worked at the convenience store chuckled.

"mhm."

"i've gotta say, you're very determined to get your drink every day," he smiled.

"mm," you sighed, before realizing that seeing this boy has become a schedule as you bought your drink every morning. "do you study here? you look around the same age as me."

"yeah i do," he raised his eyebrow. "only took you like a month to start an actual conversation with me?"

you gave him a small smile. "what's your major?"

"second year in marketing management. you?"

ok king.

"first year, pre-med. and i major in biological sciences."

"does that translate to no sleep?"

you gave him a tired smile. "sadly."

he looked as you in amusement before going back towards his shelf. "i only work morning shifts, but i guess it's lucky if it means i'll see you every day..."

he trailed off, as if asking for your name.

"y/n," you told him as you stifled another yawn.

he smiled. "pretty name."

"you're a flirt, did you know that?" you laughed quietly.

"some people might've mentioned it," he winked. "but anyways, as for strawberry milk, i only have one left toda—" he started, before another voice interrupted.

"it's mine."

you turned your head to see lana walking towards the counter.

wow. great.

just exactly what i needed.

the tall boy in front of you looked taken aback at the sudden demand.

"sorry, this one was the last in stock, and y/n here came first." he explained.

lana glared at you. "why do you have to be everywhere?"

you narrowed your eyes, ignoring lana's comment.

"i have to go," you told the boy at the counter.

"you're not going anywhere with that strawberry milk," lana scoffed. "you don't deserve it."

"you know what?" you snapped, directing your gaze to her. "i've had enough of this. every time you or your boyfriend sees me, you always feel the need to start a fight—"

"maybe if you weren't at this school, then we wouldn't need to fight you."

"pity, isn't it?" you narrowed your eyes. "not only are you problematic, you're also shallow. how many times to i need to remind you? you. don't. own. this. damn. school."

lana opened her mouth to speak but you beat her to it.

"we were fine. before i realized who your boyfriend was. we were almost frien—"

"we were not friends," lana spat. "and we will never be friends because of what you did."

a small look of confusion came across your face before you covered it with a cold look.

oh so now he's the victim?

"fine," you scoffed. "don't flatter yourself, i don't care. take the damn milk, i don't want it."

giving lana one last glare, you walked out of the convenience store.

you were really going to sue someone if you ended up being late to class again.

but before you could leave, a voice behind you stopped you.

"y/n!"

you turned to see the boy behind the counter run towards you, holding the strawberry milk.

"here, take it," he said, handing you the drink.

your gaze softened. "i didn't pay for it."

"don't worry, it's on me," he smiled. "i see you have to get to class so i won't keep you from being late."

"thank you," you blinked unexpectedly. before turning away, you paused.

"what's your name?"

the tall boy with the undercut with spiky blonde hair grinned.

"terushima. yuji terushima."

"so you're telling me that you met another pretty boy?"

you sighed. "yeah."

"and he ran after you to give you your strawberry milk?"

"mhm."

nari threw her hands up in defeat. "this world is unfair and i hate living in this unfair world."

you gave a small laugh. "oh come on," you nudged her, "i thought you were still hung up on suna."

"always," nari told you immediately. "but it'd still be nice if pretty boys would drop by whenever i breathe."

"true," you sighed as the professor walked into the class.

"don't fall asleep in class this time," nari winked.

you rolled your eyes playfully. "i didn't fall asleep... i was just distracted and tired."

"whatever you say."

nobody said it'd be easy being the top of the class. nor did anyone say that it'd be easy being an overachiever.

yet of course, here you were, striving for everything with your ambition for success.

what can you say? academic validation is toxic.

besides, if your social life was a mess, the least you could do was make sure your school life wasn't.

"are you doing it?" nari asked you with a yawn.

"yeah, i think i will," you sighed. "let's just hope i get a good partner."

earlier in the class, your professor had announced a certain optional assignment.

for extra credit.

meaning one less course next semester.

however, this project assignment was something that sounded like something where many brain cells will be lost over.

basically, your prof had explained that each student (should they choose to partake in the assignment) will have a partner with someone from another major of the same year.

and for the project, each pair must design and create something that showcases skills combined from both majors.

and the hard part? it's an open assignment.

{ whatever tf that means- im not a teacher guys don't sue me pls🧍‍♀️ }

meaning that the partners themselves will have to choose what to create... and frankly, it meant that nobody had any idea what level of excellence your professor will want.

finishing the project would be like a fish trying to swim on land.

in a sense, it reflects the research and analysis component of a ph.d, only that this project will be done over the course of a month, instead of four years.

but of course, the entire thing was completely optional.

yet a chance to have an extra credit from one single assignment?

chances like these don't come by in university... ever.

but there was a catch.

there's always a catch.

partners will not be chosen.

if a student chooses to partake in the assignment, they'll be paired at random with any other major from first year that also wants to partake in the project.

oh but that's not all.

a passing grade is 75%.

and if the entire project is less than 75%, it's considered a fail.

meaning that all of a month's work would be a complete waste of time.

and there will be nothing gained if failed.

"you're actually doing it?" nari looked over at you. "but we also have our other giant premed assignment this month."

this was, again, true.

your professor had also announced another assignment for midterms—and the midterm assignment meant another long month of stress and no sleep.

and the midterm assignment would also be of higher priority.

"yeah i think i will," you said, your mind already made up. "i'll try to manage time for both projects then."

"but y/n—" nari cut in, "how are you going to get any sleep this month?"

you smiled. "being tired is already my personality, is it not?"

nari sighed.

"so i take it you're not doing it?" you nudged her.

"absolutely not," nari stated definitively. "there's enough stress as is, and i have to plan so much shit for volleyball."

you laughed. "it's not easy being manager."

oh wait—

it actually was easy for me since i was a terrible manager.

oops.

"but," nari spoke up again, "if you're paired with another pretty boy then i'm actually going to start a riot because you're already married to me."

at that, you gave a laugh. "always. but let's just hope this pretty boy has enough brain power to keep up."

without another moment of debate, you wrote your name on a slip of paper and walked towards the almost empty box for students willing to partake in the project.

ignoring the fact that nobody else seemed to think that this project was a good idea, and ignoring the fact that this project could potentially ruin your mental health...

you placed your name inside and walked away.

without knowing how much tragedy that one slip of paper could cause.
