My patient developed worse abdominal pain after ignoring it and fevers and sweats for a long time. They thought he had a kidney stone and sent him to the ER. The ER started fluids and pain meds on him. I ordered a CT scan which revealed the actual problem: spontaneous spleen rupture and lymphoma. I make sure the oncologist who comes to consult checks his testicles, which is routine for possible testicular cancer.
After work, I drop Emery off at Aly's for their romantic night in and head home.
I'm prepared for another lonely night of just me and my exercise equipment, but Emery calls me shortly after dinner.
"I don't think I can go through with this," he frets.
"Go through with..." Oh. Shit! I'm so excited for him. "I'll coach you."

"It'll be okay. You can do it. I'll be there, in your ear. You with her now?"
