*Kageyama's POV*

I was waiting in line to pay when I hear some people talking outside. Curious, I turn my head to see... '(Y/N) AND OIKAWA!! WHY IS HE HERE!! I swear if he takes (y/n) from me, I'm going to DESTROY HIM!'

My eyes stare at them intensely till I see (y/n) turn to look at me. I quickly avert my gaze and step up to pay for my things. Once done, I rush out of the store to see Oikawa still there.

"Oi. Tobio! How are you?" Oikawa asks me. 'I know this player is being sarcastic. He doesn't care how I am. He's probably here to try to get (y/n) to fall for him. Pathetic'

"I'm fine." I reply, trying to hide my anger from (y/n). I turn towards her, trying to ignore the brown haired idiot standing in front of me. "Ready to go?"

"Oh. So Tobio here is your 'friend'." using air quotes on the last word.  "How lovely." Oikawa says sarcastically, with the slightest bit of anger in his voice.

"Yea. We go to school together." (y/n) replied to him. Jealousy flows through my blood when I hear her talking to him. "Welp. We should go." she says, handing me back my drink.

"See you around, (y/n)~~" Oikawa gives (y/n) a wink which makes her blush slightly.

"Bye!" she waves goodbye to him as we walk away.

We walk in silence for a bit, guiding her towards a park. 'I can't believe him. Every time my life is going well, he pops out of nowhere and ruins it! What if (y/n) does end up falling for him?  I'm starting to really like her and now he just swoops in and takes her from me. No! I won't let that happen! I-'

"Hey. You okay?" I hear (y/n) say with a soothing tone, which pulls me out of my thoughts.

"Oh. Yea, no. I'm fine. It's nothing..." I lie.

"Okay...." she says, unconvinced.

I find a free bench and gesture to (y/n) to sit. We place our bags at our feet and look out to the pretty view.

"Wow. Such a lovely park." I hear her say, as I place the bag from the convenience store between us and look at her.

"Yea. The view is pretty." I softly gaze at her taking a sip from her boba. "I bought us some mochi."

She turns her head to face me then looks down at the box of mango and vanilla mochi, still with her straw in her mouth. She looks up at me again with sparkles in her eyes. "I wasn't sure what flavours you liked so I bought mango and vanilla..." I say, averting my eyes to the boxes of mochi to cover my cheeks, that I feel starting to warm up.

"Thank you! Those are actually my two favourite flavours." she says, as I open up the two boxes.

"Oh. I'm glad..." I try to stop myself from smiling wildly, but still end up with a smile on my face, that I can't control.

She picks up one of the mango mochis and takes a bite out of it. Her eyes widen and look back at the piece in her hand. "This is really good! Thank you so much Kageyama!" she says turning to me.

'god I like hearing my name coming from her.' "Yea, it's no problem." I say, grabbing a mochi of my own and turning my gaze to the view in front of us. "How's it been adjusting here? This must've been a huge change for you." I ask.

*Y/n's POV*

Hearing those words gave you a shock, as you slightly tense up. 'I never actually sat down and thought about the change itself. I mean, of course I was thinking how different it is here, but I never thought about how I was adjusting?'

"Uhmm, it's fine. It's way different here then back home. But I think I was ready for a change like this." you reply, honestly.

"What do you mean?" Kageyama asks.

"Well, I was not at my greatest last year. I didn't really have many friends. I think I just needed a new start with new people in my life." you say, lowering your gaze to your boba with a slight frown on your face.

"Oh. That sucks." he says. "Well, at least now you have me as a friend" he attempts to cheer you up. It kind of worked, not going to lie.

"Haha. yea..." you say, trying to force a smile on your face. "Hey. What happened earlier? Like, with that Oikawa guy..." you look to him, desperately trying to change the subject.

Kageyama flinches at the sudden question. "Ah, well... you see, uhmm..." You tilt your head towards him curiously. "Do you like Oikawa?" he says, jerking his head to face you.

You just stare at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I saw you talking to him for a bit when I was in the store." Kageyama slowly shifts his gaze to the ground.

"Oh. I just accidentally tripped and then he started talking to me. I'm assuming you know him, right? I mean, he obviously knew you..." you ask, still looking at the shy boy next to you, as you see his tense body relax a bit at your response.

"Oh... yea. Me and Oikawa went to the same junior high. He was my upperclassman, but now, in high school, it's like we're enemies. We're both setters on our teams, and even though I'm his underclassman, I can't help but want to show him that I'm better..." he says, dropping his head down.

"I-I'm so sorry Kageyama. I had no idea." you say, taking another sip of your boba. "Well, hey! If you don't like him, then I don't like him." You stand up in front of him, giving him a reassuring smile.

Kageyama looks up at you with a slightly shocked look on his face. "R-really?" he manages to stutter out. "B-but why...?"

You offer your hand for him to take. "Because you're my only friend here, silly." He grabs it and you start walking. "I don't want to lose you over a stuck up pretty boy." This made him laugh.

You look over to the tall, giggling boy which made your face light up with a smile, as you start giggling along with him.

The rest of the walk home, you and Kageyama chat and laugh. It was way less awkward than this morning, as you both are growing more comfortable with the other.

Once arrived at your house, Kageyama pulls you by the hand that's still in his to get your attention as you turn to face him. He grabs your other hand and softly stares into your eyes. "I had a really good time today." he says, with a small smile on his face.

"I did too" you reply. You both just stand there like that for a minute.

"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow then" he says, breaking the comfortable silence.

"Yup. See you tomorrow." You let go of his hands and walk up your driveway. Once at the door, you turn back and wave to him goodbye and enter the house.

...

You have a quiet dinner with your aunt, since she was tired from the full day of work. After dinner was done and you helped her with the dishes, you rushed up to your room, closing the door behind you and throwing yourself on your bed. 'today was perfect. I can't even remember the last time I went out with friends, let alone had this much fun with them!'  you lay on your bed, sprawled on the comforter for half an hour, before you check the time and decide to get ready for bed.

You do your whole skincare routine and journal, like usual, then settle down at your desk to write a poem.

Books and Boba

are a perfect pair.

Relaxing in the park, reading, with the sun shining on my face.

That's what I call a lovely evening.

But there might be one thing better.

Having a friend to talk to.

I never missed having company,

but it was nice to have someone there this time.

Someone to talk to,

to laugh with.

Being the independent type,

never needed people to fuel my joy.

I was just fine on my own.

But then came along a new friend.

Someone I am starting to trust.

Today was... fun.

More fun than I have had in a while.

But in this fun grew a foreign feeling.

This foreign feeling,

The feeling of having fun,

With another?

Having my joy balance on the thin thread of friendship?

But, this thread is so fragile right now.

If it is not strengthened, it could so easily break.

My only hope is for this friendship to woven into something beautiful,

Because I don't want this new feeling to end.

Books and boba

are a perfect pairing.

I can only hope for this new friend and me

to be an even better one.

(A/n: Hi y'all. Was kind of struggling with the poem but I hope y'all still like it. Not sure yet what the next part is going to look like, but I'm excited. Anyways, see you in the next chapter :)
