"Amma kya zarurat thi uss sabji wale se itna jhagadne ki? Bees rupaye mein kaunsa hum gareeb ho jaate?" Shehnaaz huffed as she carried a number of bags full of vegetables and groceries.

"Arre itni mehengi sabzi bech raha tha woh. Bolna toh padega hi naa. Tu roz itne paise de aati hai kya usko? Loot raha hai woh tujhe." said Shehnaaz's mother.

"Mummy Mumbai hai yeh, Punjab nahi. Punjab ke bhaav nahi lagayega. Mumbai mein sab mehenga hi milta hai. Yeh wale bhaiya toh bahut ache daam mein dete hai mujhe sabji, kyunki main inse leti hoon hamesha. Warna baaki sabji walon ne toh isse bahut zyada bhaav lagana tha." Shehnaaz explained as they got into the building lift.

"Pata nahi kaise rehti hai tu akele. Acha khaasa ghar hai Punjab mein, par nahi. Isko akele rehne ka kya shauk hai samajh nahi aata." Shehnaaz's mother whined.

"Maa please ab firse shuru mat karo aap. Hum iss baare mein kayi baar baat kar chuke hai. Aur behes nahi karni maine. Mujhe pasand hai idhar bas." Shehnaaz said as she got out of the lift. She placed the bags on the floor, took out the house keys from her wallet and unlocked the door.

"Kuch bhi bolne jao toh bas muh band kara deti hai. Kabhi toh suna kar puttar. Maa hoon teri. Tere ache ke liye hi bolti hoon." Shehnaaz's mother said.

"Uffo Amma bas bhi karo. Chai piyoge? Main banati hoon." Shehnaaz asked.

"Haan bana de. Waise yeh Sidharth bhi akele hi rehta hai?" Shehnaaz's mother asked.

"Haan. Kyun?" Shehnaaz asked while making tea.

"Nahi bas aisehi. Acha ladka hai. Fruit aur mithai leke aaya tha milne bechara." Shehnaaz's mother said.

Shehnaaz chuckled. "Fruit aur mithai leke aaya toh acha hogaya? Nahi laata toh acha nahi hota?"

"Chup. Bakwas karti rehti hai. Aree baat karne ke dhang se bol rahi thi. Pyaara bacha hai." Shehnaaz's mother said.

"Kal aayega naa lunch pe toh apna saara pyaar khaane mein daal ke paros dena usko." Shehnaaz said.

"Haan haan. Kal toh aisa khana khilaungi tere doston ko ki ungliyan chaat jayenge." Shehnaaz's mother said.

"Mumma main soch rahi thi ki Ayeshu, Rishabh aur Sidharth ke saath saath Freny aunty aur Rusi uncle ko bhi bula lete hai khane pe." Shehnaaz said.

"Haan acha idea hai. Bula le. Bahut ache log hai. Freny behenji itne time se tera dhyaan rakhti aayi hai. Bula le puttar." Shehnaaz's mother said.

Shehnaaz's mother had arrived in Mumbai a couple of days back to visit Shehnaaz. Sidharth had visited the mother-daughter duo last evening to greet her mother. Shehnaaz's mother Mrs. Gurpreet Shergill was a sweet and fun-loving lady. She had developed an instant liking towards Sidharth and the two had bonded very well over some tea and mathri. She had invited Sidharth over for lunch on Sunday and Shehnaaz had chipped in that she would invite Ayesha and Rishabh as well so they could all enjoy some Maa ke haath ka khana.

Sidharth and Shehnaaz's bond was on another level. They seemed to understand the other's silence too.

It was Sunday and the Shergill house was bustling since morning. The two Kaurs in the house were busy cooking up a storm for the guests.

"Hayye puttar khaari lassi bana doon saath?" Mumma asked.

"Haan Amma par thodi patli bana dena. Yahan pe sab chaas bolte hai khaari lassi ko aur patli si peete hai." Shehnaaz explained.

"Theek hai puttar tu jaa ke taiyar ho jaa. Sab aate hi honge." Mumma said.
