I Miss You

Lila's POV

It's been three years since my dad passed away. God, I miss him. I wish I could hear his voice and see him just one more time. The last few months have been the worst months of my life. Since I broke up with Zack, I stopped going to church, I've barely eaten, and I haven't really talked to any of my friends. All morning I've been having flashbacks of the day my dad died and his funeral, I knew today was going to be hard

Sarah had texted me this morning, trying to get me to come over and hang out, but I knew that Luke would be there and I knew that seeing them together would make me feel worse.

"Hey Lila, how are you holding up?" Mom asks coming into my room and sitting down beside me, the moment she sat down, I lost it and started bawling my eyes out.

"I miss him,"

"I know honey, but you'll see him again someday,"

"I know, I just wish I could have one more hug from him, I need a dad hug,"

"Did someone say they need a dad hug?" dad asks as he lays down beside me and holds me tightly. "It'll all be okay Lila, I promise. I know you're still heartbroken, and that's okay, you know mom and I are here for you,"

I cried even harder, I couldn't hide anything from dad, he always knew how I was feeling before I even said anything "He still asks about you to make sure you're okay," Mom says

"I miss him,"

"I know you do sweetheart, try talking to him, I'm sure he'd love a text from you,"

"What if he hates me?"

"He doesn't, I can promise you that," dad says

"He still loves you, Lila,"

"How do you know?"

"He's just as heartbroken as you are, I can see it on his face that he's still madly in love with you," mom says

"Just text him, you don't have to get back together if you don't want to, for right now, focus on building your friendship with him again," dad says

"I guess you're right,"

Mom smiles, "If you want to invite him over to hangout you can,"

"Maybe one day,"

"Let us know if you need anything okay? We're here for you Lila," Dad says

They got up and left my room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I picked up my phone and for the first time in three months clicked on Zack's contact to send him a message

L: Hey

He opened the message and within seconds replied back

Z: Hey Lila

L: How are you?

Z: Honestly, not the greatest. How about you?

L: Honestly, same here.

Z: What's wrong?

L: It's the anniversary of my dad's passing

Z: I'm sorry Lila, can I do anything to help you feel better?

As badly as I wanted to tell him that I missed him and that I would do anything to be in his arms, to kiss him, to feel his love again, I knew I couldn't.

L: Not really, It's just the emotions that come with the day

Z: I understand, I'm praying for you

L: Thanks

Z: You're welcome. Would you want to hang out with Luke and Sarah, maybe it'll help you feel a little better, we can go walk around the mall or get dinner or something
