FEELINGS

“What is this all about?” I creased my forehead and looked at them one by one. “Why am I suddenly introduced to everyone?”

My father ignored me and continue with his speech.

“I am not pleased to the issue caused by someone who see my daughter a threat and an enemy. I am not pleased by the public humiliation she received from everyone. I am not pleased that you all called my precious daughter a mistress. I am not pleased and I am totally disappointed…” suminghap ang Daddy ko. Tumikhim at dalawang beses na lumunok. Tita Cathy on his side gently caressed my father’s shoulder and utter comfort words.

I am out words. I don’t know what to react and how to react!

“As a father, I want all the best for them especially for her because she has been though a lot. All I want for her is to have a better life ahead. I want her to live her life as great as I could give. Minsan na siyang nasira at hindi ko na ulit hahayaan pang siraan siya ng kahit sino o ng kahit ano not even a single article.”

Dad cleared his throat again before he looked at me lovingly. His eyes are now misty because of the tears. I, on the other hand, looked at him with such confusion all over my face.

“I don’t get it. Why are we doing this?” kunot ko sa kanilang lahat.

“I want happiness for you, Evangeline. Now that everything turns to their right place, I am now finally letting you to choose your happiness,” he said then smiled. Lumapit si Daddy sa akin at mahigpit akong niyakap. “Be happy, Evangeline.”

As soon as he let me go from the hug, the Sketch’s family made a grand entrance followed by the Nervaez’s. I stilled and gawked at the two powerful families walking like royalties with such authority. Hinanap ng mga mata ko si Isagani and there he is, walking with serious expression, both hand on his pocket.

Hindi ko naisip na invited sila rito!

They stopped in front of us. All of them are wearing a happy expression except Isagani who’s still serious and nervous? I don’t know.

“Sorry. Are we late?” said Isagani’s father, still with that smile.

“No. Just in time,” answered my Dad.

The solemn music stopped and the whole crowd fell silent. Tila ba inaabangan ang sunod na mangyayari sa pagdating ng dalawang makapangyarihang pamilya sa lipunan. While me? I am beyond confused! Hindi ko alam ang nangyayari! Nanatili akong walang kibo because I don’t know what’s happening!

“Everyone disappointed me already and I know your son won’t. Sa takot niya sa anak ko, hindi niya susubukan and I trust him,” said again my father. He tapped Isagani’s shoulder before guided them on the table just near us. Except Isagani who remain standing in front of me and eyeing with his tantalizing deep dark orbs.

Kaya ba siya hindi nagrereply ay dahil pupunta naman siya rito? At anong connect niya sa mga sinsabi ng Daddy ko?

“I-Isagani…” I whispered. Nanatili ako sa aking pwesto. My eyes fixed on him. We are both standing under this glamorous place and with the presence of all. Umalis sina Chase sa tabi ko at lumapit kina Daddy. They are now watching the two of us, anticipating what would happen next.

Ako lang ba ang walang alam sa nangyayari?

The host went near us and handed Isagani the microphone. She smiled at me knowingly bago bumalik sa kaniyang pinanggalingan. Aanhin ni Isagani ang microphone na ‘yan?
