Cora, Book 1, It Begins

Chapter 20, Chemistry

Cora walked away towards the lake, still laughing and shaking her head. As she got there Cora peeled off her battle gear, boots, socks and pants and walked in. She could care less that all the guys from the unit were staring at her, this was her time, she was covered in bug guts and she wanted it off. She walked out a ways into the water and fell backwards. The cool crispness brought her right back to life. She swam a bit, scrubbed off then walked back up onto the grassy shore where she laid down, closed her eyes and drifted off into her own world feeling the warmth of the late day sun on her body.

It was only a short reprieve however as a huge splash covered her in water. Cora had recognized Lars quiet footfalls and smelt her wonderful personal aroma far before she got to the lake. The splash took her totally by surprise.

"Lar you can be so evil,"Cora barked with eyes still closed which sent Lar into a fit of laughter.

She washed herself then came out of the water and laid down beside Cora, enjoying the sun and the company of her sister beside her. "Not going to get laid by some of your breatharian?" Cora teased. 

"Na,  lazy. You? You complaining long time." Lar teased. "Oh,  you  want um, what's name, um... Philip?" Cora pretended to punch Lar in the stomach.  They laughed, teased and languished for about fifteen minutes before they heard and smelled Wayne coming towards them.

Lar, in forest tongue teased "here comes boyfriend." Which got her another punch.

Cora responded "he's not my boyfriend."

"Yet," laughedLar.

"Well, Jake just asked me if you were single, I told him yes and you liked mouthy dark skinned men." Lar punched Cora back and laughed.

Private Wayne approached quietly, cleared his throat thinking the girls didn't hear him coming.

"Excuse me ladies," he said hesitantly.

Lar turned to Cora laughing and said in her own tongue "your heart go fast, you have love on him."

Cora punched her again with another "Shutup."

Cora could feel her face turning red. With that Lar stood up and in English said "I leave you two alone." Then in forest speak, "I think I'll go find Jake." She headed back to the others laughing.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything ma am" said Wayne.

That made Cora smile,"No, you didn't, she was just teasing me like always".

"Do you mind if I join you?" He asked.

Cora Giggled and sat up. "Only if you never call me ma am again."  

She looked down at her legs and for the first time felt shy, she was sitting beside this man in only her panties and a still very wet tshirt that was clinging to her leaving nothing to his imagination. Why did this bother her, why was her heart racing, why does he make her mind go to mush? Her thoughts were starting to get the best ofher when Private Wayne spoke. "You and Lar are close aren't you?"

"She's my sister, we're very close," replied Cora. Can I just call you Phil?"

Private Wayne looked very confused so Cora teased him. "If not, it's OK. I'll call you sir."

"No,No, sorry, of course you can call me Phil. Um sister?"

Cora then explained how they shared the land with Bawg and his family. That when Bawg's mate Jawn was killed her mother took over as mother for them. She also explained how when her mom and dad were away, Bawg or PAPA as she and Greg called him, would look after everyone.
