The following morning, I decided it was my turn to go for an early morning run. I needed to clear my head.

When Emma eventually came to bed last night, I pretended to be asleep. I couldn't face her and the last thing either of us needed was a late night argument. I can't go around throwing accusations at her without the proof. It could quite easily be a misunderstanding so needed more time to build my case against them both.

The crisp morning breeze did work a treat in helping improve my mood. My head was a little bit clearer and I'd already decided my next move.

As I eventually reached home again, I was a sweaty mess. Walking through the door, my nostrils were filled with the smell of pancakes.

"Something smells good!" I say as I enter the kitchen. "Morning kids!" Rubbing their hair as I walk past them towards the steaming cup of coffee that was waiting for me.

"It's a shame the same can't be said for you!" Emma dropped the joke as she walked towards me. "Good morning, handsome."

Kissing her softly on her lips. "Good morning, beautiful." Taking a sip of coffee before clearing the elephant in the room. "What time did you get home last night?"

"Erm, about half 10, I think. You were sound asleep when I got home."

Nodding mid gulp. "Yeah, I had a busy day yesterday, could hardly keep my eyes open. What time will you be home tonight?"

She let out a long breath before answering. "Lindsay has phoned in sick again today so they've already asked me to cover her class again. So I'll probably be home around the same time tonight I'm afraid, honey."

My heart sank. Why was she lying to me?

"I'll make it up to you when I come home, I promise." She tip toed in-front of me so the kids couldn't see her grab my balls as she kissed me.

As angry I was and with how betrayed I was feeling, I couldn't help but fall for her words. Looking into those green eyes, the same ones I fell in love with all those years ago. She still managed to make my heart melt even after all this time.

"You smell great." I say as I get a whiff of her hair again, pushed into her signature ponytail. She looked and smelt gorgeous.

"Thanks. New shampoo. Anyway, enough about my shampoo, go and have a shower and I'll get some more pancakes on for you. Can't have my husband going to work on an empty stomach." Slapping me on the ass as  I turn around.

"Someone's in a good mood this morning. Maybe you should work late more often." I chuckled as I dodge the fast approaching cloth coming towards me.

"Don't rush either." She shouted. "I'll take the kids to school this morning."

I couldn't help but feel a little cheated on by my own children as they both let out a huge "YAY!!!"

"Thanks kids!" I shout back. Falling on deaf ears.

Okay, so I may have lied about going into work today but a little white lie doesn't hurt.

As I kissed my wife and children goodbye, hoisted my laptop bag over my shoulder. It was time for my day of investigating to begin. It could be a long drawn out process of sitting in my car all day waiting for my suspicions to be confirmed.

I had an hour or so to kill before Emma would be heading to work from taking the kids to school, so I decided to head to the coffee shop adjacent to the gym she worked in. Not her usual go to for her morning smoothie before work, so on the basis she hasn't changed her taste in coffee shops like she clearly has in her men. I should be safe and out of sight.
