It was Natsu Dragneel's birthday. In reality he could be turning 3000 but if we don't count those years in the crystal he was turning 20. He may be 20 but he still had the childish mind of a 12 year old but everyone loved him for it. He was pretty excited about his birthday, he didn't really care about the gifts and the birthday wishes, he did care about the cake. Entering the guild with his blue pal he was greeted with a glitter bomb.
He knew then and there the glitter would stay on his body for years but he couldn't help but smile. The guild was decorated in streamers ad balloons. Not to mention a massive banner that read "Happy Birthday Natsu"
"Now who's ready to party!!!" Cana shouted ready to begin the massive party. It wasn't a Fairytail birthday without a drunk guild. Everyone got straight to the drinking downing as much as they could. A few individuals approached Natsu with some gifts of course.
"Here you go flame for brains" Gray was first to give him a gift, it was some red gem in the shape of a diamond. It was wrapped in black string so Natsu could wear it around his neck. Natsu loved it but he would never admit that to his rival.
"We need to have a birthday brawl later ice princess" Natsu gave Gray a knowing look which he returned. As much as the two fought they deep down were best bros.
Next up was Erza who gave Natsu one of her swords, she called it the "Sword of Flames.".
"As soon as I saw it I thought of you" She smiled before crashing the boys head into her armour. He was definitely going to have brain injuries when he was older.
Natsu received gifts from Wendy, Gajeel, Levy, Juvia, Laxus, Mira, Lisanna, Elfman and a few others. He was extremely grateful and loved each one. However what he couldn't help but notice was a missing blonde. He searched the guild for her but she was no where in sight. His heart sunk a little. He was looking forward to spending his birthday with Lucy, she made everyday better for him.
As if on cue the guild doors opened and she walked in holding a box, she almost lost her balance opening the door but managed to not drop it. She made eye contact with Natsu and smiled so hard she squealed. Quickly placing the box down on the bar she rushed to the boy wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Happy Birthday" Natsu wrapped his arms around her waist and gave her a hug. He could feel the excitement radiating of her body.
When she pulled away she was shaking with energy.
"So we have a cake" She pointed to the bar where the box she bought sat.
"We have drinks" She continued
"We have presents, but those are for later" She said with a wink
"We also have marshmallows because we are having a bonfire" She jumped with excitement.
"I promise you, the best birthday you have ever had Dragneel" She grabbed his hand and pulled him to the bar. The pinkette watched as she unwrapped the box carefully to reveal a chocolate cake with strawberry icing. He could tell it was homemade and that made him smile even more. Knowing how much effort his partner put into it. The strawberry icing spelt out "Happy 20th Birthday Natsu.".
Lucy reached into her bag to pull out a few candles, she gently stuck them in the cake. Following this she pulled out a lighter and began to light the candles on fire. However before she put the lighter away she turned to Natsu. Lighting it up again she lifted it to his mouth.
"Omg you could totally eat this" She spoke a if she almost forgot Natsu ate flames. Natsu giggled before quite literally taking a bite of fire.
Natsu continued to watch the girl as she carefully lifted the cake and began motioning everyone over.
"Cake Time Everyone"
Within a matter of seconds Natsu was seated down at a table and everyone was surrounding him. Lucy right by his side. As everyone sung to him he couldn't describe the feeling, he felt on top of the world. He had the most amazing friends, seriously why would he change a thing.
Well there was one thing he wanted to change.
Wrapping his arm around his blonde partner she smiled up at him. He wanted to make Lucy his forever.
"Stop staring and blow your candles out" Lucy snapped him out of his daze. He turned and blew the candles out earning a loud cheer from everyone.
Natsu wasn't sure how much everyone had drunk, in fact after a few hours he had lost count of his own intake. Of course Lucy being the responsible soul she is (totally not true) made sure to take care of him. No matter how many fights he started, no matter how many times he puked she made sure he could still stand. Natsu enjoyed the night, dancing, drinking, eating and brawling with everyone. Sure he would wake up wanting to die from a hangover but it was all worth it.
It was probably around 2am when Lucy finally sobered him up.
"I think the birthday boy went way too hard tonight" She laughed chucking Natsu another bottle of water after he downed the one in his hands. The two sat by the bonfire Lucy had lit. In the distance she could see Erza and Gray drunk of their heads dancing. Cana was already passed out in the guild somewhere and Gajeel and Levy were definitely having sex in the guild basement. Seriously, you could hear it from the bar. They were a rowdy bunch to say the least, but there was never a dull moment.
"Say, I never got to give you your present" The blonde spoke. The dragon slayers ears perked up at this. He had totally forgotten he hadn't received something from his favourite person. He didn't really expect anything from Lucy, just her being his partner was enough but out of all the gifts he was most excited to see this one.
"I didn't want to get you something that you would just use and throwaway eventually so here" She handed the boy a perfectly square box. It was white and was decorated with a yellow ribbon. He unwrapped it slowly still recovering from his night of drinking. Once he removed the lid it revealed a square shaped book. It was red and gold and it read 'The Adventures of Natsu, Happy and Lucy.'.
"I know its not as cool as some of the other stuff you got, but I wanted to make something so that when we're old and grey we can look back at" Lucy's cheeks heated up. She couldn't help but vision a future with Natsu. She knew no one could ever make her feel so secure and ecstatic at the same time.
"So me and you are growing old and grey together" Natsu removed his eyes from the book for a split second to smirk at the blushing girl.
"Shut up and look inside" Her blush just deepened and her partner thought it was the most adorable thing ever.
Flipping through the book Natsu couldn't help but smile. All the photos of all the places they had been. Photos of Lucy in her maid outfit, Happy with all the fish he had caught and Natsu burning down important building. He loved the life he had, he loved it because he had Lucy. He eventually hit a few blank pages, the first one reading 'to be continued.'. He couldn't help but inwardly jump, filling out those pages with Lucy and Happy would be an adventure in itself but he would have to trust Lucy with the arts and crafts stuff.
"Luce I love it" He closed the book and wrapped his arm around the girl. She gladly hugged him taking in his body warmth.
"I love you" Before the two broke apart Natsu whispered those three little words into her ear. She had to know how he felt. He needed her to be his forever, so they could grow old and grey. He knew they were soulmates and deep down so did she. Breaking apart Natsu could see his partner blushing like a mad women.
"You gonna say it back?" He smirked at the girl.
"I..I... Iloveyoutoo" She spoke so quick trying to hide her tomato like face. In a moment like this one would expect the two to kiss but neither of them felt they had too. They were contempt with just snuggling by the fire. Plus Natsu's breath stunk like pure alcohol.
Wrapping his scarf around the blonde the dragon slayer smiled.
"Best Birthday Ever"
