A thick fog was looming over the neighbourhood, and the moon couldn't even shine through as much, leaving only some people with its gorgeous light.
A family of eight laid asleep in their beds, softly snoring as they dreamed of whatever, passing time until the morning sun would rise.
But one of them wasn't sleeping, she couldn't at all. The girl was restless, something bothered her and had been keeping her awake for up to two hours now.
'When am I ever going to sleep? I have school today!' the girl cried, looking at the plain white ceiling of her room.
The fog outside was still lingering, even after hours of being there, travelling. But even so, not anyone would notice a strange boy walking around in the pitch-black night.
He was sleepless, too. The boy decided to take a nightly stroll, hoping it would clear his senses and bring him to peace enough that he could rest until morning. But he couldn't help but be curious of the sweet smell of... what was it? Ah, strawberries and cream.
It was alluring, so sweet to the nose. He wanted to check it out.
So the boy looked around, even while surrounded by the fog, to find the source of that smell. He thought that someone was baking sweets. But wasn't that a little strange? Making a delicious dessert at 2 a.m in the morning.
However, the boy didn't know it wasn't that at first, just as he climbed in through the window of a lovely home, entering in a bedroom to that of a girl's, possibly.
Looking around, he noticed a girl laying snuggled up in the bedsheets, as if she was standing in a snowstorm. She was staring at the ceiling above her, seeming to be restless, as well was the boy.
How come she didn't notice him yet? Because it's so dark in her room? If she just moved her head a bit..
"AH—"
"W-Wait! Don't scream!" the boy quickly demanded as he laid his hand over the girls open mouth, just as she was about to let out a scream.
The girl responded with muffled noises, probably trying to tell him off.
"H-Hey," he spoke in a hushed tone, "please, t-trust me, okay?"
The boy truly meant no harm to the restless girl, as he was just allured by the sweet scent of strawberries and cream, as if someone was making a shortcake. But he couldn't smell that far, could he?
"I-I'm sorry," he apologized as he took his hand away from the girl, letting her talk again.
"...Who are you?" she asked quietly, her eyes deadlocked on the boy's dark ones. "And... W-Why are you in my room?"
The boy sighed, looking away from her. "Th-This has been a mi-misunderstanding. I d-did not come for y-you, I just th-thought that... Never m-mind."
"Why do you stutter?" she suddenly asked.
"N-No reason," the boy lied, not wanting to get into a big conversation about his problems. He'd rather not.
"Am I dreaming..?" the girl mumbled to herself, gazing around with confused eyes. "You're real... right?"
"Yes.."
"Okay..."
The boy felt a sudden pain in his throat, the unexpected but definitely annoying burning sensation had came back, and it was bad timing.
"I-I have to g-go now.." he spoke nervously as he moved towards the window to leave. But just as he got there, the girl said something.
"Are you going?" she wondered, somehow not afraid of the strange boy who had entered her room, but she felt oddly calm around him, and it made her confused.
"Y-Yeah... I h-have to, so.."
"Oh.. okay, then.."
The boy gave a short smile as he left out the window and into the looming fog and darkness.
'Why did he smell like chocolate and... mint? I think it was mint.'
Sooner or later, after talking to herself for a bit, the girl's eyes began to feel heavy, signalling that her body was tired. But she couldn't help but think of the weird boy... And even dreamt of him.
