Chapter 30 - Harland

HARLAND. Harland Hidalgo is my younger brother. He is five years younger than me and we are completely different from each other. Kung ako ay nakapagtapos ng mga masteral degree, Harland did not even finish his college course.

He pursued a musical career as a lead vocalist and guitarist of a local band na may mga gigs din sa ibang bansa. Naalala ko noon si Keisha sa isang party ni Harland. Both of them are a bit intimate, but I don't remember seeing Helena.

Harland never mentioned her before.

Just like me, my brother had been involved with several women. He has the money, the good looks and the status as a rockstar. Women are offering themselves at his feet. He is sweet and thoughtful, qualities that are far from my vocabulary. Since he had already made a name for himself, hindi na nakapagtataka na may babaeng na-obsess sa kanya. Someone who was devastated when he died from a car accident.

Harland had a long shoulder-length hair, but we look almost exactly alike. Helena probably found me, a spitting image of my brother. Her obsession resurfaced after she discovered that Harland is alive, sa katauhan ko nga lang.

I wonder if Zara knows about Helena's connection with Harland. She should have at least gave me a heads-up about her crazy niece. And now it is too late to get out of this demented obsession.

Minabuti ko na tumahimik at ipagpatuloy ang pagkain ng agahan. Mukhang kumalma din si Helena. Her obsession with Harland is now transferred to me, but the difference is, my brother probably just sees her as a fan, another avid supporter.

In my case, Helena became an important part of my life.

"Kailan kayo nagkakilala ni Harland?" I dared to ask her when her face softened.

"We've met in Manchester, your first concert. May backstage passes pa nga ako. Hindi mo ba naaalala?" she asked as she raised her eyebrow.

"Of course, I do. How can I forgot a pretty face such as yours?" I answered with a smile.

Hindi ko alam kung magagalit ako kay Helena or maawa sa kanya. She looks normal, walang signs na may psychological disorder. Sa ilang linggo na namalagi siya sa opisina bilang secretary ko ay hindi ko siya nakitaan ng symptoms ng delusions.

Or maybe I was too blind to see the signs? Or maybe I have accepted her monster?

Maybe she is normal and something set off this delusion. Kapag intimate kami ni Helena, palagi niya akong tinatawag sa pangalan ko. Ngayon lang niya ako tinawag na Harland.

Maybe Keisha is the spark of this shocking turn of events. Maybe she harbored a long time wrath with her.
