The moon casts a soft glow on the side of the writer's face as her fingers rest on her laptop's keyboard.
I'm getting nowhere with this, she thinks to herself as she glances at her clock.
It's past 3 am and she realizes that she's been working on the same chapter for more than two hours now. She leans back on her bed and recalls the harsh meeting she had with her manager just a few days ago.
FLASHBACK
"You shouldn't let yourself be so complacent, Camila." Her manager says without looking away from his office's floor to ceiling windows that gave him a view of the busy city below.
"I've been writing nonstop for months now and -"
"Exactly! Wouldn't it be more logical to keep working on it until you finish it rather than taking a break in between? You're critically acclaimed for your works, not the breaks that you take!" He finally looks at her and Camila has never felt so small in her life.
"The critics treat you as their darling. Your last four books were a success! Best-sellers! Do you really want them to see that the industry's tiring you out?"
"I - "
Her manager looks at her and she knows that her arguments are a lost cause.
"You're right." She slumps in her chair in defeat.
END OF FLASHBACK
She understood what he meant and it's clear that he's just looking out for the consistency that her career relied on. But she's been feeling so utterly lost in the midst of balancing the pressure of her career and not letting her closest friends and family down along with the extreme highs and lows of the relationships that she's been in--
She sighs. She's tired.
Not to mention the fact that she's lost the feeling she used to get whenever she pours into her writings the things she couldn't ever really make herself say out loud.
Writing somehow does not feel like a safespace for her anymore. And she's scared. And she's tired.
So she pulls up her phone and decides to text her best friend who's still probably binge watching the Twilight Saga based from their earlier conversations.
(3:28 a.m.) C: Cheechee, u up?
(3:28 a.m.) D: You're not asleep.
(3:29 a.m.) C: ??!? You're watching Twilight aren't you?

(3:35 a.m.) D: of course chancho, is something wrong?
(3:39 a.m.) C: It's getting too heavy, D.
(3:40 a.m.) D: Shit.WHO DO I GOTTA MURDER, MILA? Hey, I'm here for you chancho. Where do you wanna meet?
(3:42 a.m.) C: I'll probably wake up late so... In-N-Out sound good to you?

(3:45 a.m.) D: Got ur back mila!!
Camila lightly chuckles at her best friend's blatant excitement over the burger joint. Looking back, she's beyond grateful for her friendship with Dinah. They had met in kindergarten when Dinah was partnered up with her during playtime and Camila was pushed a bit too strong by Dinah on the swing which caused the smaller girl (even back then) to almost comically catapult into the air. Thankfully, all was resolved when Dinah shared half of her banana with Camilla during recess.
"The start of a beautiful and quite intense friendship", Dinah would say and Camila couldn't help but agree.
She yawns and starts feeling her eyelids get heavy. She hopes her best friend could help out with what she's feeling because honestly, she has so much questions in her head and at this point, she only trusts her best friend to not stab her in the back while she's at her most vulnerable.
