Why can't I?

Everyone I meet always tells me I have such an amazing future and that I'm gonna do such amazing things, but as much as I try why can't I believe them? Why can't I believe that I'll even have a future without destruction and trauma, why can't I believe that I'll ever be successful with such baggage on my shoulders that's I've carried a long way from the past till now. Why can't I even though I want to? Just why?
