Kabanata LX: Deed

When night came, Ken and I were torn between going home and staying at the hospital. Personally, I wanted to stay but I know I can't. I have to rest for my twins. Masyado ng naging mahaba ang araw para saming lahat. Who would've thought that a simple trip to my doctor could go this far? But that's good news. At least, I saw great improvements for Ken and his brother.

He cared for George. He actually allotted a space for him in his heart. Ken's slowly but surely getting to the stage of accepting his past. Pagkatapos nito pwedeng sila naman ni Tito ang magkaayos at 'yun siguro ang isa sa mga araw na nilolook forward ko-aside from seeing my little babies.

"Please take care of him. I'll be back in the morning to check but for the mean time I'll leave him at your disposal." Ken asked the nurse politely. Ibinibilin namin si George sa nurse. We have to go home and rest. George's currently sleeping so it's the best time tobid our goodbyes.

He's been sedated. Kaya mahimbing siyang natutulog ngayon. That kid suffered too much. According to the doctors, he's under the impression of emotional trauma, not to mention the evident physical inuries he sustained. I don't need to ask the how and why because for crying out loud it's evident. He's abused by someone and it could be his mom or the guy named Justine.But I'll bet on the latter.

Ken gave me a look. "Let's go?"

I smiled and nodded my head. Hindi na ito kumibo. Hanggang sa makarating kami sa bahay nila. Mabilis siyang bumaba at umikot sa kabilang side ng sasakyan. He opened it for me. Iniabot niya sakin ang kamay niya.

Hinawakan ko ang kamay niya. Akmang tutulungan niya ko sa pagbaba nang tawagin ko ang pangalan niya.

"Ken.." he looked up and I can see the tiredness in his eyes.

"Hmm."

I cupped his cheeks and kissed the tip of his nose. "I'm so proud of you, baby. You did well and I love you more because of that." Puri ko sakanya.

Napakurap ito at tila nabigla sa sinabi ko. Kanina ko pa gustong pugpugin ng halik ang mukha niya. I wanted to commend his demeanor. Proud na proud ako sa ginagawa niyang pagtatanggol sa kapatid niya.

Unti-unting sumilay ang mahinang ngisi sa labi niya. "I'm trying, baby. I'm trying my best." Aniya.

"I know and I can see you're doing well."

Natawa ito. "Because I have you that's why I can do it." at mahigpit akong niyakap.

Nakangiti kaming bumaba ng kotse. Hawak niya ang kamay ko at masinsing inaalalayan ang bawat hakbang.

Pagpasok ng bahay ay kapansin-pansin ang katahimikan. Kumunot ang noo niya. Sakto naman ang pagsulpot ni Manang Rosie na galing yata sa kusina.

"Oh mga anak nakarating na pala kayo." Bati niya.

Ngumiti ako bilang pagbati rin. "Ba't ang tahimik? Wala pa po ba sina Mom?" tanong ni Ken sa matandang katulong nila. We agreed that I'll stay with him for the night. Gusto ko rin naman samahan siya dahil alam kong kailangan niya ko. Nagpasabi na ko kina Dad na kina Ken ako magpapalipas ng gabi. They didn't oppose with the idea.

Ngayon pa ba sila maghihigpit sakin kung kelan parang lobo ng puputok ang tiyan ko. I broke them the news that we'll be having a twin and they're more than happy for us. Pero tulad ng dati, my Dad asked when the wedding is and I've got no answer for him. Hindi namin napag-uusapan ang bagay na yun. I don't even know kung may concrete plans si Ken about that.
