I'm back from the lowers. Sebastian was right morning coming early. He woke me up before the the beam started its day time sequence. "Come on."

I yawned still half asleep a little concerned as to where I was but yesterday's flooded into my mind. "Right."

Missy with the Theo her hip throw me my clothes at me. I thanked her but she just huffed and said I looked out of place and not wear them. So, Bass gave me a pair of his green overalls to hide my uniform. Then he handed me a faded red cap to hid my face. Apparently the Lower never sleeps work crews run 24/7. The news that a the daughter of a guard was somewhere here alive made me very valuable.

We left the house joining hundreds of other lowers all walking toward the fish hatcheries or the water treatment stations. As we get closer people say hello to Bass. I heard lot of talk just regular conversations who's kid had done this how another's person's garden was doing. If anyone knew who I was they didn't say. Bass moved up to the fence that separates us from the cirimals in orange suits.

I reconzied one of them "Owen?"

Owen looks up from the ground smiling at Sebastian. "Hey Bass, what's up?"

The older man nod to me "I found someone who wants to talk to you."

I look up at him. "Hello."

He stops cold,"Dylan what the hell are you alright?"

"It's a long story are you alright?"

He nods furiously, "I am it's no so bad here I...I'm making one day at a time."

We don't have long a guard or worst another prisoner will notice us. "Do you have a message for your Mother? I know she misses you."

His eyes get watery his fingers on fence I put my own on his. "Tell her that her Mi cielito is okay I'm staying out of trouble and that I'll back to her."

"I will and I'm sorry that your brother died I was angry at him and everyone else."

A guard spotted us and told us to move along. "Do you forgive me? Please I need to know I never got to ask."

If the fence hadn't separated us I would have hugged him. "I do I'll tell your mother I promise."

He smiles melting into the group of workers. As a Bass gently pulls me away. "Ready to go now?"

"Yeah, thanks." Wiping my eyes tears of joy...I don't know I was feeling a lot mostly and surprisingly lighter. Ever Since it happen I'd been carrying my own guilt and shame. Today I let some of it go.

Bass led me down an ally, "Okay turn left here and you'll be next to a guard station. Just walk up to the door they're looking for you.

"Got it," I said leaning down unlacing my boots.

"What are you doing?"

"Well, you feed me let me have a shower, sheltered me." I hold out my boots. "I think that's worth a pair of boots. Size 7, only a year old."

Bass takes the boots,"I only wanted these because I thought you were dead."

"I would be if you hadn't found me."

He holds out his hand for me to shake. "This is all I have."

Shaking his hand I smile. "Good luck out there."

We go our separate ways me to the guard station and him to work. I'm sure he's home by now, I wonder what his wife's reaction was. I walked on alone to the guard station where all I had to do was ring the bell. A young trainee pulled me into the station.
