When I was twelve, I was being bullied. Nothing special, really just regular name calling. My mother, as expected, was very concerned and in one of our many arguments she admitted to me that she had been sexually abused. I've never really been close to my mother but in that moment I've never been more proud of her.

She was strong growing up and managed to overcome this and be there for her father when he was ill, even though he had hurt her. She's my role model, and I love her for being good to me and for being able to have a family and a "normal" life after so much suffering. Anyway, back to my story,

A while ago towards the end of the school year, I had a little accident. I accidentally pulled a chair out from under someone. It sounds so trivial but his friends and girlfriend completely overreacted. I guess that's the upside of him being a part of the 'popular' group: everyone's there for you.

Whenever they got the chance they would insult me. They called me a "slut", a "whore", and a "b*tch" on a daily basis. His girlfriend threatened to beat me up. My best friend refused to talk to me, for fear of them "thinking because she hung out with me people would think she was mean as well."

I have apologised but they still wouldn't give in. I hope one day that people will listen to both people's sides of the story before they start being hateful. Everything is okay now, but their words still hurt.
