What is in a promise that makes it so sweet?
Is it the thought of what could happen,
or is it the hope that comes with it?
Honeyed words never sounded so sweet
as an empty promise
falling on ears that are deaf to deceit.Softspoken, sugarcoated words
can blind even the most doubtful mind,
draping it in a cloak of the most brilliant reds
and gentle pinks, concealing its uncertainties
in a veil of false pretense.Promises, words spoken without true intent,
are nothing more than empty words
masked by a thick layer of false pretense.
