2018/12/22 - Permanent Sadness

2 1 0

Don't fall asleep.
The ghost will only
make you sad.

Corpses litter the fields,
Blood stains the earth,
The stench of death fills the air,
All is chaotic in the realm under Heaven.

Armies clash, ravaging cities
And destroying families.
A mother pleads for her son,
But her cry falls on deaf ears -
Both are beheaded like common cattle.

This scene is one of utter chaos,
And as I turn to my side, I see you.
You are dressed in black, official minister robes,
And I can't help but smile in relief,
I am able to see you again.

Nothing feels impossible with you
By my side, the entire realm could be ours,
But you made me promise you long ago
That my ambition would not exceed my station
As a servant of a dying dynasty.

Thinking of that promise, I frown,
Knowing how it all comes undone,
And how I lose you in the midst of it all;
However, that is in the future,
And, right now, your eyes still gaze upon me
With a kindness and warmth that
Will leave a permanent scar.

Yes, how you left will leave a scar,
A gaping hole in my chest that can never be replaced,
But, again, that is in the future,
Something I do not wish to ponder.

You are the perfect distraction,
Such fair skin, soft brown eyes,
A brilliant mind, long silky hair,
And a heart full of love; only you
Have the capability to calm
My thunderous heart in this time of strife.

Alas, only you, who once gazed at me with enough love
To swallow the world,
Could also leave me with this permanent sadness.
