Rose

As we sit there Robert strokes my hand, I don't know how long we sit there for but when he stands up my body feels tense again. He pulls his shirt on again and walks to one of the cabinets to my left this time, when he turns around he has a syringe. My body goes tight and I wonder, while he walks towards me, what it will do. He still has that calm look in his eyes, but I don't feel calm at all,

'W-what will it do?' I croak but this time my voice has a hint of fear in it.

Robert looks at me then at the syringe,

'I am going to run some tests on you to see how you reacted to the bolts, to make sure you are ok' he explains 'problem is I need you knocked out and I can do it this way' he gestures the syringe 'or, I can knock you out with my fist. You're too beautiful to do that'

I nod still not sure, my eyes on the point of the needle.

'It's just, I'm afraid of needles. I trust you but still I'm afraid of what you might do to me' I mutter.

Robert sits next to me in his chair and holds both my hands in his, looking me straight in the eye,

'Rose you have no reason to be afraid of them, and I promise I will be next to you the entire time you are out' he stops 'I just need to know what happened out there, I've done the same tests on myself they don't hurt one bit, it's only this part, I promise'

He looks at me and then kisses my hands. I nod and swallow the lump in my throat.

'Where do you want it to go?' I whisper in a shaky voice, not taking my eyes from his.

'Just here' he says in a gentle voice, gesturing to me by tilting his head to the side and pointing at the base of his neck. I nod again and tilt my head, sweeping away my hair. Robert stands with the syringe in hand and carefully brushes my neck with his fingers, getting the last bits of my dark brown hair out of the way. Then gives me one last nod and I squeeze my eyes shut. I don't see it go in, but I feel it. Then Robert says

'Here we go' and I feel pressure on my neck as he pushes the plunger. He puts his hand on my bare back and eases me down onto the bed, then I shut my eyes as the sleeping solution kicks in and my mind goes blank.

'What did you do to me?' I mumble.

'Oh, I just ran some tests' he says airily 'nothing much' he strokes my hair as I lie there, looking into his eyes.

'Like what?' I say louder this time.

Roberts brow creases, like he is working out a maths problem. Then he looks back at me and sighs,

'It would better if I showed you' he pauses as I start to sit up watching me to see any signs of pain, then continues when I'm sitting on the edge of the bed 'I'll help you stand up, it may be difficult.'

He helps me a lot because it turns out I can't stand up after laying down for so long.
