It was 3 AM and I was still laying wide away in bed.

I was counting the rise and fall of her chest instead of sheep, restraint lost by the time I got to one hundred. Following the path of the moonlight, I drew an invisible line up the side of her body, from her hip to the bottom of her ribs, careful not to touch her and wake her.

She hadn't changed much since the last time I saw her at the café. Her hair was in front of her face and I reached out, softly tugging it behind her ear, but stopped when she stirred, moved a little and half-consciously reached for me.

I hesitated for a moment, knowing that she was still asleep and it was going to be really weird if she woke up in my arms in the morning, but then I pulled her closer, pressed her against my chest, filling up the emptiness that resides there when the sunlight disappears.
