Chapter 21

Tessa’s POV

I felt myself awaken, and opened my eyes slowly, as I woke up properly. I sat up and clumsily fumbled around for my phone on the bedside table. Finding it I checked the time on the lock screen to discover it was Sunday, 2:10pm.

Woah, I’d slept for literally a whole 24 hours.

I think I’d been more tired than I’d thought.

But I did feel much better.

I got up and changed into jeans and a t shirt, pulling a brush through my unruly hair and then left my room to find Dan. As I walked into the lounge I found him chatting with Woody on the sofa.

“Hey!” I called.

“Sleeping beauty has awakened at last!” Dan cried, making me laugh.

“Oh hello Tessa!” Woody greeted.

“Hey Woody” I smiled, joining them.

“You’ve been asleep for ages!” Dan said.

“I know!” I laughed. “But I feel so much better now, I think I was just really tired”

We chatted for a while before walking down to Starbucks for a bite to eat. Despite sleeping for a whole day, I wasn’t particularly hungry. We didn’t spend long eating before heading back to the apartment. The weather had gotten quite bitter and I shivered, feeling the winter nip in the air as it danced around my face.

“Hey guys”, Dan said to me and Woody as we got back.

“Yeah?” we replied.

“Fancy baking a cake?” he asked.

“For what?” Woody asked.

“I dunno, just you know, to eat”, Dan laughed.

“Yeah!!” I said excitedly, jumping up and down. “I haven’t baked a cake since like forever!”

“What type?” Woody asked.

“CHOCOLATE!” me and Dan cried together.

We managed to find all the ingredients in Dan’s scarily unorganised kitchen and began mixing it all together.

“Woody!” I cried, as he accidentally splatted some of the cake mix onto my arm.

“Sorry drama queen!” he laughed, flicking some more at me on purpose.

“Argh!” I squealed. “Dan! Sort him out!”

“I think I’ll pass”, he chuckled, before receiving a hefty dollop of egg yolk on his shirt from me.

“Oi!” he cried, wiping it off.

“That’s for not helping me!” I said, laughing as he fretted over his shirt.

We managed to get the mixture into cake tins and then into the oven without having any other food fights. When the cakes were ready Woody took them out and we waited for them to cool before messily decorating them with whatever we could find in Dan’s kitchen.

“Mustard!” I cried, picking up a jar of mustard.

“NO! ABSOLUTELY NO!” Dan cried, snatching it off me.

“But a mustard cake would be amazing!” I laughed.

“I gotta agree with Tess”, Woody said coolly, grabbing the mustard out of Dan’s hands.

“Yes Woody!” I laughed, hi-fiving him.

“Weirdos! The both of you!” Dan said. “Especially you” he pointed at me and I put a hand to my mouth in fake shock.
