"Oh!" Honor exclaimed. "Courtney Osland! You'll be sitting with me anyways then. That's awesome. So you're living with Stephanie and Amy?"
"I am; do you know them?" I was curious as to what others thought of them.
"I've met both of them a few times. I think they're both so nice. What do you think? Do you like them?"
"I do," I said relieved. "That makes me feel good though. I only met them yesterday and I wanted to make sure I didn't overlook something really important."
"Oh well there's nothing really to uncover about them. Of course, Amy's an assassin on the side and Stephanie has a multiple personality disorder but that's not anything important."
I chortled. "Oh well that's fine, I was just looking for something important."
The line was moving quickly now. The different platters of food all looked delicious. So much for bad school food. In the end, I settled on scooping ravioli drenched in Alfredo sauce onto my tray. I looked over at Honor's plate after I payed.
"How can you do that?" I exclaimed.
She looked confused. "Do what?"
"You've got a whole buffet of delicious food in front of you, and you get salad!" I cried.
Honor looked down. "Oh," she shrugged. "I always get this." She smiled. "I guess I never really thought about it."
I shook my head, "Weirdo."
"That's me," She smiled then motioned outside. "Come on, let's go find everyone." Suddenly I became uneasy. Will would probably be there, especially if Honor sat with Courtney. Oh get over it, I told myself. You've seen cuter.
Once we walked outside, Honor automatically spotted them all bathing in the shade of a large oak. Sure enough, Will was sitting there, along with Wade and a few other boys I had seen that morning. By them, I saw Courtney sitting next to Ashley and Morgan. Courtney looked up and quickly saw me. She let out a relieved smile.
"Auden! There you are!" Then she looked beside me, "Honor's here!" she called out. Will instantly looked up. His eyes lit up when he saw her, then played over with confusion. He stood up and met us halfway.
"Hey," he said, taking Honor's tray in one hand, then wrapping his other around her waist. He gave her a quick peck on the lips. "I thought you were sick?" Feeling like I was intruding on something private, I continued walking. Behind me, I heard Honor answer Will,
"I'm all right now. I didn't feel too great this morning, but after a few hours I was up and about, so I decided to come for the second half."
"Oh well I'm glad you feel okay," I heard Will reply.
I reached the girls and sat down.
"Hey, what happened to you?" Courtney asked.
"Sorry, I got lost," I grinned. "Luckily, Honor had just came and I ran into her. She walked with me here."
Ashley laughed. "Sounds like Honor. Isn't she the sweetest."
"She is, I don't think I've ever met anyone like her."
"You better hurry up and eat," Morgan interrupted. "There's only five minutes left of lunch."
"Oh!" I thanked her and dug in. The pasta was warm and creamy. Delicious.
The bell sounded, and I scrambled to finish. Standing up, I tossed my tray away and waved goodbye to everyone. Then I hurried off to my next class. I looked at my schedule. Art. Well that sounds fun. I liked out, but the class had become over booked last year, and I'd been transferred to cooking. I was not a cook.
I read what Will had written earlier. He was in my class with me. That was scary. I hurried to my locker and then to the art room. I walked inside and found myself surrounded by art. It was a spacious area with sun streaming through sky lights. Each of the walls portrayed a different painting of a place. One wall showed a rainforest, large flowers blooming in the misty air, colorful frogs darting up trees. Another showed a birds eye of nighttime New York City. Waves crashing on the beach and a secret garden with a castle on the horizon adorned the other two walls. The work was beautifully done, colors layered upon each other. Easels were set up on one side, pottery wheels in a corner, laptops in another. A young women wearing a paint splattered smock stood in the middle of the room. Her frizzy red hair was held back by a tick green ribbon, but many short flyaway pieces escaped it and framed her face. She smiled when she saw me walk in.
"You must be Auden." she said.
"That's me," I responded with a smile.
"Good. You're going to be sculpting, alright?"
I nodded, "Alright." I made my way over to the corner harboring the pottery wheels. Most of the students had already filed in, so I took an empty seat. Across the room, I saw Will setting up at the laptops. They must have been for graphic designing or something similar. He looked up and saw me. I began to wave, but he quickly looked down and away from me. That was weird.
Through the class, I experimented with the clay, shaping it and then pounding it back into a ball. I wasn't alone, since I had been told by Mrs. Carson that the class had just swapped stations last class. It would have been fun, but I couldn't concentrate on what I was doing. I tried to catch Will's eyes, but he avoided my gaze all class. It wouldn't have made a difference, save the fact he had been so friendly the previous classes. Nothing had changed since then. Maybe it's just me. But something told me it wasn't.
