I immediately got up from the table and texted Maizy.

Me: are you okay?

Me: Maizy

I started panicking.

Me: please answer me

Me: are you at the mall?

My heart race sped up after she still didn't answer me.

Me: oh crap what if it's super quiet and the shooter is walking around and your phone isn't on vibrate and now I'm texting you AND THEN THEY FIND YOU?

Me: crap. Maizy you better have put your phone on silent

Me: please answer me. I need to know you're okay.

Please be okay. Please be okay. Please please please.

I called her twice. No answer.

"Mom I'll be right back." I got up and grabbed the car keys.

"Where are you going?"

"The mall."

"Emory! You are not going to the mall! Are you kidding me?"

"Maizy is there, mom!"

"I'm sure she's fine!"

"Did you not just hear what happened?"

"Em, she's okay."

"She's not answering me!"

"Maybe her phone died."

"Mom! I'm going!" I yelled and a few tears ran down my face.

"Honey," she walked over to me and hugged me, "I'm sure Maizy is okay. But I'm not about to let you drive there and get yourself shot."

I sat on the floor and tried to calm myself down.

"Mom, what if she's not okay?"

"Emory don't think like that."

"I need a moment." I got up and walked into the bathroom, without any intentions of actually using it. I locked the door and reached up to open the window. I pushed the screen out and climbed through it, almost falling off. I jumped down quietly and ran to the car.

I drove to the mall as fast as I could. The news on the radio was talking about how police had already arrived on the scene. A couple minutes later a reporter had revealed the possible reason for the attack.

"The Oakwood Mall had just installed their first gender neutral bathroom, which had also been damaged..." I didn't hear much else after I accidentally ran a red light. I reached the parking lot of the mall and saw at least 10 flashing lights. I got out of the car and almost ran inside.

The first store inside had a wall of just broken glass around the corners. Shards of glass covered the entire little shop. A couple pieces had blood.

There were 2 other shops with the same exact thing. The third store with broken glass had police escorting the shoppers outside or to an ambulance. I finally saw someone come out of the store that I recognized. Maizy's mom. She had a small cut on her arm.

"Are you okay?" I immediately ran up to her. "Where's Maizy?"

"I'm fine. Maizy is too." I sighed in relief. Behind her mom came a tall beautiful golden like haired girl. She had quite a few cuts and scratches on her arm.

"Em-" before she finished her sentence I ran into her and grabbed her into a hug.

"Are you hurt?"

"Just a few cuts. They'll heal."

"But are you okay?" I asked super worried.

"Only because you're here."

"Oh thank god Maizy. Please don't ever leave me."

"I would never leave you Em."

"How do you know?"

"Because I'm meant to spend the rest of my life with you."
